Question about Sony DAV-DX150 System

No power to player!?

I have a dav-s550. All of a sudden it will not turn on, no stand-by or anything it's just dead!! PSU? I'm pretty handy at repairing PC's but have no experience with DVD players, so any help would be much appreciated!

same problem, NO POWER TO PLAYER. Before this happened, my unit has been checked by Sony Authorize repair center, they replaced 3 ICs because there is NO SOUND when it plays, and after a few months, the POWER is not functioning. Please help, repair cost is too much.

the fuses are the first obvious suggestions.
in the main AC plug, and if theres any sign of fuses on the Circuit board itself.
If it,s over 2 years old, i,d think about getting a replacement.
as repairs nowadays cost an arm and a leg, and only usually warranted between 30-90 days.
If it,s done it,s job. then it,s time to think about a replacement.

Sony dav s550 dvd has no colour

Hello, welcome to Fixya!

The display setting is set to NTSC either on the TV or DVD that's why it is showing in black and white.

Check the DVD display settings and change it to Pal or auto, save and try again. Also, check the PAl settings on the TV.

If the above doesn't solve the problem, then it means there is an incompatibilty problem between the TV and DVD.

I hope the above is clear.

Dav-dx250 volume is very low with maximum volume

How does it sound when you calibrate the speakers (page 75)? THAT is how the basic hardware is verified. Anything that doesn't work after that is usually a setup or source issue. Read the manual.

Turn the volume control to something medium.

The errant switch, control or condition may change and you will suddenly release the amp's full power and possibly destroying your speakers. If a signal isn't audible at 1/2 volume it's probably not there.

Carefully examine the front panel for clues like a misplaced Source Selection, Mute, Tape Monitor control or Multichannel Analog Input selected.

There is a good chance that a common control may have developed a high-resistance or 'dead' spot through defect or idleness and is causing your symptom. Turn the POWER OFF and operate every control throughout its range a number of times, especially rarely-used ones like Tape Monitors and the Mute control.

Turn the volume to something reasonable and see if that helped.

There is a gear underneath the tray that may be broken or possibly the open close detect switch nay be bad. You will have to remove the tray, you will then see that gear.

Dead Kiss DP-1500 Player

The problem is a well known weakness of all Kiss DP 15xx and DP/VR558 players.
The PSU (power supply unit) can't stand the heat and will fail typically after 1-3 years of operation/stand-by. At first the voltage falls fading the light intensity of the front panel, then odd malfunctions occur, and finally the unit ceases to work.
I own own of each, and they are close to identical as to the PSU and both have had the same problem.
The condensators of the PSU are of a inferior brand and typically 3 or more of them will "burn" leaving a bulge at the top end of the cylindrical component or alternatively leak a dark brown resin-like substance onto the print board.
A complete set of new condensators can be had for approx 5 euros and at that price leaving some of the original condensators unchanged seems unwise.
Read all about the fix at:
Be advised that opening the cabinet voids any warranty, but as Linksys the new owner of the Kiss brand refuses to repair- or pay for repairs this is of little concern.

No power to player!?

Open it up and check the main fuse. It is located on the board where the wall plug enters the chassis.

Disc sticking

Lasers are mechanical and focusing parts. Over time, mechanical parts can wear out and focusing parts lose focus.

Try a wet/dry laser cleaner using alchol based cleaner. If this doesn't work, connect a cheap DVD player to it so the Sony system can provide audio....
