Your PC is virus infected. Although you can install anti virus and run update for your protection but still the antivirus software can't be installed. Since pop up notice tells you to back up files for reformatting, then you need to transfer all data to drive D. If your formatting is on drive C, your files on the other drive willnot be deleted as long as you have to reformat the drive for your OS,.
Install first antivirus after the formatting and update your virus protector. After that you can transfer and install some of components in your system.
Most of the times viruses destroys your CD ROM drive and other systems.
Hope this will help you.
Enjoy.

Why does c:\windows\system32\7CF3~1.exe keep on appearing in my monitor?

That is an infection. You can basically do one of two things:
1.) Scan the PC with your antivirus software. My preference is to do this in Safe Mode because that will disable drivers on your system which many infections need to function. To get to Safe Mode, restart your computer and when you see the ACER logo splashed across your screen, start tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. After a few seconds of tapping it, you'll be brought to the Advanced Boot Options screen. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to go up to Safe Mode and hit enter when it's highlighted (if you're using Windows XP, hit enter twice). Once the system files are done loading and you login, run a virus scan with the antivirus software on your PC. Once finished, just restart your computer and you'll be back in Normal Mode. If you continue to experience this issue, then...
2.) You will need to perform a System Recovery on your PC. The process is somewhat different from one PC to another, so you'll want to follow your manufacturer's instructions (or take it to a computer shop to have them do it). Important: Backup anything on your PC which is important to you BEFORE doing this step. A System Recover erases your hard drive and then reinstalls Windows, which means you will lose all data on the computer. So, backup necessary files to ensure you don't lose crucial data (pictures, music, documents, etc.).
I hope this is helpful and best of luck!

My system is full of viruses. Do i install antivirus and try and remove the viruses or do i need to uninstall windows xp sp2 and reinstall with a antivirus.

The "best practises" approach recommends:
1. backup of your data/music/E-mail files.
2. a "full" format of your C: drive.
3. reinstall Windows from trusted media.
4. install anti-virus software, and update it.
5. run Windows Update, repeatedly, to get all the updates since 2000 (when XP was released).
6. reload your data.

I'm trying to restore my acer mini netbook to factory settings.

At the Acer splash screen, you can press Alt and F10 to bring up a DOS style version of eRecovery. The unit is able to reload Windows from this mode faster then from CD. If the hard drive is replaced the system loses its eRecovery features. These features are on the hard drive and cannot be reinstalled
  • Be sure that you back up your data files before performing this option. All of your personal data files and applications are erased during the recovery process.
  • Due to the large number of virus and Spyware threats on the Internet, it is recommended that you disconnect all Internet connections before performing the recovery. After the recovery, antivirus and firewall software can be installed, and then the Internet connection can be re-enabled to update the antivirus definitions and perform Microsoft® Windows Updates.
  1. Remove all CDs or DVDs from the optical drives.
  2. Turn off the computer, using the normal Windows shut down process.
  3. After the computer is turned off, disconnect all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse. This includes USB devices such as a printer, scanner, removable storage, or camera.
  4. Turn on the computer. After the Gateway BIOS logo appears, press ALT+F10. The easiest method is to hold down the ALT key and repeatedly press the F10 key.
5.Windows loads files.

I want to reset it

Unlike other laptops, Acer laptops integrate a computer management utility called 'Acer eRecovery Management' to create backup of hard drive data, create restore point, reinstall applications & drivers, and reset Acer laptop to factory setting.

Step 1: Before starting your Acer laptop, ensure that there is no external storage device attached to it. Now start your laptop.

Step 2: Press 'Alt + F10' when the laptop starts booting, and wait for a moment while Windows loads the reset files.

Step 3: When 'Acer eRecovery Management' window appears, select 'Restore System from factory default' and click 'Next' to continue.

Step 4: Again click 'Next' to reset your Acer laptop. This process will erase all data from your hard disk and reset your Acer laptop to original factory settings.

Step 5: Click 'OK' in the notification window to begin the the resetting operation. Now wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.

Tips: You can also create a backup copy of your laptop data before factory reset. Simply click 'Backup' in 'Acer eRecovery Management' window.
