Question about Acer Aspire 5050-3242 Notebook
Upon booting up, the following msg appeared on DOS black screen:
For Realtek RTL8139(X)/8130/810X PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.17 (051202)
PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
Operating System not found
Upon trying to do a reformat, the process is hanged at Windows blue screen while the Windows setup is doing the following:
Examining 152626 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi...
I highly suspect it's a hardware failure on the Realtek network adapter (cable connection loose?) but would like to confirm this
Thanks in advance for any help/advice rendered
Yes, your analysis of the problem is correct. The problem could be with the hardware & while you are trying to reinstall the Windows OS, the software checks on all hardwares before installing. The best solution would be to take your system to a nearest service provider & get the problem rectified. Once the problem is rectified by them, try to reinstall the OS along with them, so that if there is any other problem apart from the above they will be able to help you.

If you use ethernet, then your connection, possibly the cable, is not working.
IF you don't use the ethernet connection, and have no cable plugged in for ethernet, the warning is NORMAL.

Are you on a company network ?
As I said if you are, then booting from a network may be part of your company system.
If it is just a home computer then you have other issues which could range from something as simple as a faulty hard drive cable to a dead hard drive.
If it is a company computer on a full lan then turn boot from network back on and see if it will boot. if not then te server that has the boot source may have an error or the lan may have issues.
