I HAVE A CANON PIXMA MP590 PRINTER. INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE INK CARTRIDGE (BLACK) WITH A NEW ONE, I REFILLED THE OLD ONE INSTEAD. NOW EVERYTIME I TRY TO PRINT SOMETHING IT TELLS ME THAT I'M OUT OF INK AND NOTHING I HAVE DONE HAS CHANGED THAT. I'BVE UNPLUGGED THE PRINTER FOR OVER AND HR HOPING THAT IT WOULD RESET ITSELF BUT THAT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. WHAT CAN I DO?

I simply have a very hard time accepting this answer since Canon itself sells refill kits. Please just tell me how to override the response that I get when I try to print. And I thank you.......Lynne

Please just tell me how to override the response I'm getting. I understand that you are recommending a new ink cartridge but I simply cannot afford to do that. That's why I invested in an ink refull kit. So tell me how to overridea the response that my ink is out. Thank you.

Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!!! I am going to give this a try. I appreciate your answer. I know I am taking a chance but it's cheaper to buy a new printer then buy the cartridges. What is this world coming to??

You have to replace the entire cartridge. Here is why:

There are many types of printers and ink delivery methods. Some cartridges can be refilled a couple of times and others cannot. The sellers of refill kits want you to believe that every cartridge can be refilled with no adverse effects.

You should know that the Canon PIXMA's black cartridge has 320 nozzles built into the cartridge. When you replace the cartridge you are not just getting more ink. You are getting a brand new ink delivery system. This is important because over time ink residue builds up in the cartridge and fouls the nozzles.

Hopefully, knowing you aren't just paying for ink will make you feel better about paying for a new cartridge.

Use a genuine cartridge, or clean the old one. Remove it and clean the metal contacts with isopropyl alcohol and cotton swab.
Do the carriage too.

Thanks!

I recommend that you do not use refilled ink cartridges, or even compatible ones. It is already well known that genuine print cartridges are the only cartridges that guarantee your printer running without frequent print head issues.

In your case, I recommend you replace the refilled print cartridge with a genuine one.

Hi, Welcome to Fixya.

For your kind information as per manufacturer's terms & conditions the refilling the cartridge and use it with original device is not allowed. Because it can make violation in your device memory. After breaking the wall seal on your cartridge, sometime to cartridge itself is not detectable.
Also I think there were some fault during refilling the cartridge, which caused blow ink inside the sensor membrane and create problem in detection . Please remember that open ink is harmful for your printing head, using a refilled cartridge/non-OEM cartridge can make your printing head faded, where the result will be showing like color will come light or some time extra color instead of desired.

So, My suggestion is to resolve the issue, Please try using original cartridge.

And let me know the result.

For further help please stay connected.

Thanks for joining us.
Have a nice day.

When you insert a refilled ink cartridge into your Pixma MP500 printer you should get a warning about the refilled cartridge. if you are using a refilled cartridge the printer don't accept them, you need to use the proper canon ink cartridge, if you are using the canon cartridge you have to press the stop botton for 5sec for accepting the new cartridge.

It is registering a empty ink cartridge. If you had the cartridge refilled instea of replacing the cartridge that is what happened. The chip on the cartridge wont register the refilled ink and tells the printer it is empty.

Refilled Ink cartridge but the printer says there is no Ink

you refilled or purchased a new cartridge? If you refilled ; did you do it after the printer told you it was out? The cartridge electricial would have to be reset. How to do that is a guarded secret for Canon. Buy a Canon One and replace Cartridge, would one on solution.

Refilling Ink in Canon Pixma MP830

Hello, I found this in a repair manual for the MP830. summery is to press and hold the stop/reset button for 5 or more seconds. I copied the info from the manual too. The remaining ink amount unknown. [1683] (Applicable ink tank icon) The remaining level of the following ink cannot be correctly detected. An ink tank which has once been empty is installed. Replace the applicable ink tank with a new one. Printing with a once-empty or refilled ink tank can damage the print head. If printing is continued without replacing the refilled ink tank, press the Stop/Reset button for 5 sec. or longer to record the use of a refilled ink tank. Note: After the above operation, the function to detect the remaining ink amount is disabled.
