It simply slides in the slot in the edge of the machine, & will mate with a connector at the rear of the slide in socket.. It should work once connected.

Error code 00F0:136C IDE FAILED BLANK MEDIA OR NO MEDIA IS PRESENT IN OPTICAL DRIVE. IS THE HDD FRIED OR WHAT?

Hi,

You probably ran the 32-bit diagnostics in this Dell computer.

The error code 00F0:136C, actually is talking about the "OPTICAL DRIVE,"which is your CD/DVD ROM; not the hard drive.

That will fail since, I am assuming you didn't put anything inside the CD-ROM.

The diagnostics tests everything and in this case, it tested the CD-ROM and failed since there is no CD inside the CD/DVD-ROM.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Oliver

Hello and Welcome to Fixya.

Seems like you're having a software issue that prevents your system to read/run a disc when inside the operating system. I have included the official fix from Microsoft:

DVD Drive Troubleshooting

All you have to do is to click on "Run Now" and follow the on screen prompts - just remember to eject any CD that you may have inside the drive.

Please note that if this does not work, then the drive needs to be replaced. You may contact dell in case that happens.

Hope this helps and Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi

Thank you for your query

What you are explaining is a classic windows loop

Unfortunatley the only way around it is to reformat the PC

Please do the following

1) Simply put your recovery CD provided with your laptop into your DVD/CD rom drive and then allow the laptop to restart

Then simply follow the instructions on screen

If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again

Where is the CD drive on the Dell studio laptop need to put in disc for printer

you can see a slot on the right side of the laptop. you need to put cd in to that. you cannot see any CD Drive coming out of this model. Its a slot CD/DVD reader. So jst push the CD in to the slot. it will start palying. to eject go to my computer and right click on CD driver and click on eject. thats it ok

Cd/dvd rom not working

go into device manager and see if your drive is listed or has an exclamation point beside it.if you dont know how to open device manger go to start menu and click help and search device manager.if there is an exclamation point ! click it and it will tell you the problem.you may need to download a new driver or reinstall the old driver. the only other possibility is the drive is dead :(
