Hi,

Kindly let me know what the issue is with. You can remove the screws and drag the front end panel for replacing the hard disk.

Regards.

Data recovery can be expensive the most expensive recovery labs may charge $2000. But for a 320GB drive you can get the data recovered for much less money.

This guy does data recovery remotely over the internet and works for donations http://FreeDataRecovery.us

Another good low cost option is http://300dollardatarecovery.com

My SimpleTech 320GB external hard drive is no longer working. What can I do next?

Check the cable, and try a different one.
You can get a new drive online for $60, that will come with a cable,so think about spending more than $10 on a cable.

You can also get a new case for $10 or less online. Also with a cable you can use to test your current drive. You will need to open up your case to see what type of case to order.
There are two types, SATA and IDE. The ide drives have 44 pins in two rows.

Once the case is open, try removing the drive and then putting it back in the case, then testing it again. It is a slim chance, but sometimes works.

If the drive does not work in the new case, it is most probably faulty.

How to use hitachi simpletouch external 320gb hard drive . i pluged in usb to computer and nothing happens. it should automatically open hard drive

Hello

If the HHD gets power and you can feel the drive spinning, you can try these steps and see if your problem is solved. Go to:

control panel
Administrative tools
Computer management
Storage
Disc management

Now you should see your drive in the schematic below. Right click on it and choose the option to change drive letter or paths. Now just assign a new drive letter to the drive, restart your computer and it should work fine.

If you cannot see any power light flickering or feel movement on the drive when you power it up, then there is a other problem. Hope this can help you.

Best regards
Andrea

Hi-

Chances are these large memory hard drive should be plugin with a USB and adapter of its own since 320Gb is too big and needs power to be able to recognize. But if you find it defective you have a year warranty from the manufacturer, you can call them up for a replacement.

Hope this help. Thanks for using Fixya!
