I live in Australia and have two Samsung DVD/VCR player recorders, DVD-VR375 and DVD-VR355. I could only play Region 4 DVDs until I pressed DVD, with no DVD in the units, pressed Menu then 76884, then 9, inserted a Region 1 DVd and it played in both units. Christina Weate
1) Turn on the player with no disc in the tray
2) Press the Open/Close button to open the tray
3) Press the info button, the firmware version shows up (mine was 080220.13.B.1080PXKEG)
4) After the version info disappears, close the tray again by pressing the Open/Close button
5) At this point, it will show "no disc" at the top. Press the Info button again, and this will disappear.
6) Now type the code that applies for your region (R4 is 76884). A '4' will briefly show up at the top left corner
7) Now press 9, and 9 will show up in the top left corner
8) Power off the player, and turn it on again. You'll have a multi region player
The instructions for the DVD-P181 are actually correct as described in other posts but can be a bit confusing. Please allow me to clarify using my example;
With your DVD-P181 switched on, follow these instructions using your Remote Control;
1/ Press the <DVD> button
2/ Press <0><0><0><0><0> (this is 0, 5 times)
3/ Press <repeat> (careful not to press the <repeat A-B> button)
4/ Press <7><6><8><8><4> (ONLY if your player is currently region 4 - refer to the table below for other pre-set regions)
5/ The Region window should now appear on screen saying that your current region is Region 4 and asking what region you want to change it to.
6/ Press <0> for the new Region (0 is region-free)
7/ Press <Open/Close> button once (to open the tray)
8/ Press <Open/Close> button again (to close the tray
9/ Press <Power> button to turn the player off
Now, when you turn the player back on, you should be able to play DVD's from any region. Good luck everyone.
This table refers to Step 4. You need to choose the Region code which your machine is currently set to, to unlock the Region Menu which allows you to set the device to another region.
In my example, the DVD player was purchased in Australia is by default set to Region 4. The 5 digit number I needed was 76884.
5 digit code: region 1 : 29334 region 2 : 37867 region 3 : 56732 region 4 : 76884 region 5 : 53814 region 6 : 24462
By what I have researched the vr370 doesn't have much information on it by way of unlocking the system...I have the vr375 which is the modle able to record BOTH dvd and vcr formats. I changed my region 4 player a year ago, but had to have it repaired and lost the setting. I have, however, found what I used online, and it is now playing my region 1 discs again!
