Uninstall the existing Device Manager.
Download the latest Device Manager software for this device from www.p4c.philips.com and install this.

Repair the player using the updated software.

If the problem still persists, try the update once more.

If this still doesn't work, then the main PCB is faulty and will have to be replaced.

If the repair does work, the player briefly shows a message on screen when restarted, then shuts down again.

You then need to restart the player again and it shows Updating, and then goes to the main menu.

My 8G Philips GoGear SA3285/37B is saying i have no memory left when i've deleted everything on it, music and all. how do i fix or reformat it?

Firstly, I'd suggest that you do a soft reset of your player. You will find the reset button next to the 'power on' button on the side of the player. Please hold the Reset button using a pen tip or other sharp object for 10 seconds. Now turn it on.

If that doesn't work, I'd suggest that you try to restore factory setting using Device manager or repair it using Philips songbird or device manager.

Launch Device Manager and click the Tool menu and select "Repair", then follow the instructions to perform the repair process. Make sure all other applications such as Philips Plug-in, Windows Media Player or Windows Explorer that access the device are closed or else Device Manager will not recognize the device.

Hope this works.

My mp3 player keeps freezing and i tried to reset it and everything but it keeps freezing and saying: updating 99% does anyone know how to fix it please?

If the soft reset doesn't work, I'd suggest that you format the player and repair it using Philips Device Manager.

Here is how to format it:
On your computer desktop, double-click "My computer". Double-click on the MP3 player's icon. Right-click on the Internal Storage icon and then select "Format".

To repair:
Launch Device Manager and click the Tool menu and select "Repair", then follow the instructions to perform the repair process.

You can download Device manager from www.philips.com/support

Even if you have older USB it should still see the device. If you think it is a USB 2.0 problem go to a friends house and hook it up to their mach. to find out for sure.

Mp3 go gear 2g

The laptop must have a USB 2.0 port, and even then many laptops don't have enough power to do everything they need to do AND run an mp3 player at the same time.

If your laptop is running Vista, you must update the firmware on the player for the GoGear to work properly.

Because it is flashing on/off,
It could be a hardware issue requiring replacement, but here are the things you can try to narrow it down:
1. Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged
2. Reset the player
3. Run an Updated using the latest version of the Philips Device Manager from Philips website
4. Run a Repair in Philips Device Manager

Triple Reset for Philips’ GoGear: (also forces the PC to recognize the device in many cases)

Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

IRiver Music Manger not recognizing iRiver player when connected

First make sure you have the right drivers installed, you're hearing the "new device connected" sound when you plug it in, it's listed as recognized under device manager, and the only problem seems to be that iriver music manager isn't recognizing it.

If everything is working except for the music manager, then try holding down the "fast-forward" button at the same time that you connect the cable to the iriver. You probably want to keep iriver music manager loaded, to see if it's recognizing the player while you test this; try attaching/detaching the device several times, while you're holding down fast-forward and while you aren't, to see if that's enough to fix your problem.

I have no idea why it works when it does, it's an ugly kludge, but it seemed to fix the problem for me, and saved me from having to buy an entirely new flash mp3 player to replace this ancient one.

My player isn't recognized by the Device Manager or Windows Media Player

I was experiencing this similar problem, and from my research so were alot of other people, what finally worked for me was this:

  • Update all the software on your computer via Phillips site
  • Open the Philips Device Manager
  • With the device connected and the 'connected to pc' screen showing on the GoGear, do a 'soft reset' by holding the Power Off + Volume Up buttons for a few seconds
  • As soon as the device restarts itself, hold the Volume Down button, the computer should now recognize the GoGear
  • Follow the onscreen directions to Repair the device
  • Thank the intarwebs.

Philips Device Manager - MP3 - SA1125

I had this problem twice, the player keeps displaying some pixels spreaded randomly on the screen when I press the play/pause button or when its connected to the pc, while Philips Device Manager keeps displaying the error:
"Buffer overrun detected! Program: ...hilips\SA21xx\Device Manage.exe A buffer overrun has been detected wich has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated." (I have an old SA2115/02 device)
When I contacted Philips about this problem, they said to bring the device to them but it was out of service.
So I tried lots of repair/recvery programs and got to a point where I couldn't even format the player cause of the write-protected error. I was about to trash it when I tried this last method :
-I used an USB cable extender so I won't brake my PC's USB port
-I started Philips Device Manager
-I began pluggin/unpluggin the device repeatedly while Philips Device Manager was loading
-after the program loaded and recognized the player without giving me the error above, I left the device plugged
-I used the repair option, took a deep breath and waited until the operation was finished and voila!

Now I don't know if it will also work for you because I tried lots of rude methods wich I don't remember the exact order, like the first time I've repaired it, but it's worth trying.

Good luck!
