Question about Altec Lansing Multimedia Computer Speakers

2 Answers

I have a set of Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers that are now about 6 years old. In the last few months the sound level has gradually faded to near zero...even with all of the volumn controls set to max. Given the wiring arrangemnt on these speakers I don't believe that I can try them out on another computer. Hence I don't know if the problem is with the sound board, the sub woofer, or the volumn control on one of the four speakers. Does anybody have a clue as to what has gone wrong. BTW: I have not touched any of the connections but I have checked to make sure everything is connected proberly. Thanks, Ken

I went to the Sound Blaster Audigy site and downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the sound card. My computer, at least, says that the card is working. Perhaps the sub woofer is just worn out because it basically never gets turned off and hasn't for over 6 years. The sound is now down to just about zip now.

    Thanks

I loaded a new set of drivers for the sound card and that checked okay. I then found my old speakers, just a pair, and connected them and soudn is ok. So you must be right that one of the speakers has worn out. I suspect that it probably would be the woofer as all four speakers are fed through that "box". Thanks for your help.

Your correct the magnets in these lansing units they do not hold up even this long due to the quality of the sound coil check into it you will find that I am correct. I know it would cost more to rebuild the speaker then it would cost to buy a new pair. What happens over time the magnet wears down the coil the coils is located in the center of the speaker and expands to black or white special paper board witch creates the noise and expands it so you can hear quality. When this wears then yes the sound degrades and you get a lot less quality out of it.
Recommendations : Rebuilt or replace speakers.

You could at least try other speakers on your computer. Even a pair of very simple speakers could help you verify whether your sound card is the cause of the problem or not.

That is the setup guide for the speakers.

The two wires plug into a cable that then that single cable plugs into the computer, this way you have sound coming out of the left and right hand speakers.

Where can I download a driver for Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers?

HI, maybe theres been a bit of confusion but your Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers shouldn't need any drivers.
Its kind of similar to you plugging in a pair of headphones into your cumputer, they should work just fine.
Are you not getting any sound? Post the details of your PC (is it a dell?)
model number etc... and describe your problem
You probably need audio drivers for your audio device(inside your pc on your motherboard),

My Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers have stopped working. I probably downloaded some other software that overrode the Dell speaker installation. How do I reinstall the Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers?

The speakers are probably fine. What you probably need to do is to reinstall the sound drivers on your dell.

You need the model of your dell pc and go to the dell website and find download and install the sound drivers for your system.

The model of your pc will be needed if any more assistance is needed.

Altec Lansing ada745 fuse

It is written on the sub. You can also take it out or look at the spare which is taped to the power cord wall plug. I believe it's T1A 250V fuse
