I connect my brother MFC 240 c printer to the desktop which is using XP SP1. My laptop has VISTA HOME OS. and has a wireless connection to my desktop thru router. The printer is shared
My laptop is able to detect the printer. However it can not connect as it is looking for the printer driver for VISTA in the desktop. I can not load the printer driver for VISTA on my desktop which is running XP SP1. Neither was there a browse button in my laptop for me to redirect search when VISTA is looking for printer driver when connecting to the printer

once you format your sytems means, you deleted whole OS so you need to reinstall fresh OS on it.
you supposed to have a recovery disk (it comes alongwith laptop while buying it)
but it depends on what basic OS was there when you bought your Laptop if there was XP then you got XP OS recovery disk if there was vista then you have Vista recovery disk.
if you don't have recovery disk then you need to get new Vista disk from market to install back vista in your laptop.
Make sure domain settings to your server are correct on the notebook computer. These settings are located in the control panel of the system setting.
Whats the operating system of your server?
Make sure the firewall in windows security is turned off too. Sometimes that thing sneaks up on you.
I haven't used the home edition of Vista but another reason why it might not be working is because it isn't the business version. Microsoft might have added extra security to prevent the home version from connecting to a server. I know we use the business version of Vista at work and it is working that way on the intranet server without a problem.
May your printer doesn't fit to your operating system because Windows Vista is one of the complicated OS and hard to find installer or software to fit it in. Try to Replace your operating system that same as your brother have. maybe it can fix your problem!
