Question about Amana 22.6 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator with FrontFill Ice and Water

1 Answer

Refrigerator coils are iced up.

I have an AMANA Model SBD20MW. The coils were iced up and I had to turn it off, remove everything, and let the ice melt into the tray. What could have caused this problem and what action do I take?

If the water is showing on the freezer side, more than likely you have a clogged drain. This occurs when the machine goes into defrost and the melted ice somehow is prevented from draining and therefor refreezing and blocking the drain for the next defrost cycle. The best way to resolve this is to unplug the machine for atleast 24-48 hours to let all ice melt. If thats not an option that you want to use the actual repair method would be to 1) unplug the machine 2) empty everything out of the freezer so you'll have room to work 3) take all the shelving and baskets out 4) locate the screws on the rear wall inside the freezer and remove them 5) take the back panel off exposing the evaporator coils ( the aluminum ) 6) directly below the coils is a trough of sorts and the drain is usually in the middle and runs out the bottom, remove the ice by carefully chipping it out or by using a hair dryer or hot water. 7) once all the ice is gone, the drain is visible and water can flow smnoothly down the drain dry the area and reassemble.

How do I remove the ice maker from the refrigerator?

Hello there,
To be able to remove the ice maker from the refrigerator, please follow the steps below:
  1. Unplug the refrigerator ffrom the power outlet,
  2. Open the door and unscrew the screws that mount the ice maker, there are basically 2 screws, for some model, there is a screw under the mounting that is holding the ice maker in place, but make sure you do not loosen the screws completely,
  3. Lift the ice maker up from the screws mounting it and pull it out from the rear of the refrigertor,
  4. You will have to squeeze the tab on the wire connector in order to remove it from the refrigerator wire harness.
  5. Then you can remove the ice maker.
That is how to remove the ice maker from the amana refrigerator.
All the best. Elect_Comp

Adjusting Ice Maker Fill

Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the screws on the ice maker's front access panel, and then remove the panel.

  • Locate the adjustment screw, located about mid-point on the side of the ice maker. Do not turn the crew more than one full turn in either direction.
  • Turn the screw clockwise ½ turn to decrease the water fill level.
  • Turn the screw counterclockwise ½ turn to increase the water fill level.
  • Close the access panel and restore the screws. Turn the refrigerator back on.

Where is the drain located in the amana refrigerator that empties the water into the bottom drain pan? ModelTC20E-L Amana frigerator

    Good day,
In the freezer compartment, after you remove the rear panel, you will see the cooling (evaporator) coil. There is an aluminum pan directly below the coil. The drain hole would be obvious unless it is iced over, in which case you would need to melt the ice out.

It is connected to the drain hose which you can see by removing the back bottom cover of the machine that houses the compressor. If open and working properly, the hose carries the water to the drain pan which allowsit to evaporate.

If the freezer has an ice maker, it will have to be removed first. In addition any support brackets if they prevent the removal of the rear panel.

Amana SRD520T - appliance tripped the circuit breaker. After power had been restored the compressor ran but no cooling in freezer or fridge

With the compressor running, open the freezer and listen if the fan is running. If it is not, replace it. Most likely, this is your problem.

If it is running, turn off the refrigerator. Remove the rear panel from the freezer. Inspect the coils. If they are covered in ice, let them thaw completely. This ice will prevent the freezer and consequently, the refrigerator from getting cold.

If the fan works and the freezer coils are not cold, then I am afraid it is time for another refrigerator.

I have an Amana SWD26v. last week it stopped cooling the freezer and refrigerator the fans run but it will not get cold

go inside the freezer side an see if you have ice on the back wall panel,(((inside of the frezeer side)))
if you do then you have a ice blockage on the coil that prevents the air from traveling tru it an cooling ur fridge side
that is the problem, now..... lets see why that is happening...!

empty the freezer side, remove the screws careful,

find the defrost timer, normally on the refrigerator side , there is a little hole by the control panel, you will see a small hole about the size of a pen find a small screw driver and , stick a small screw driver in the hole an turn it i think is counter clockwise till it stops at the line mark you will hear a click if you miss it do it again wait like 10 mins an see if the ice melts on the coil.
if the ice starts to melt, you have a ((bad an stuck defrost timer)),

if it doesn't melt then you have a problem with the heater an therminator aronund the coil.... you have to do a volt test the components.
NOTE if you have to replace the advance timer is easy, but when you do it , turn the timer to something like the 11 o clock mark, right before the line, that would allow the machine to go into defrost cycle right after you put it back together, and melt the ice, since model are different, u want to be safe anyway, let it cycle that will clear any ice on the coil an should work ok after that!.. the big mistake some ppl do is to let ir run while they go to the part store, they come back an install the timer, but by the time they are done, they have more ice on the coil plus the ice that builts from the cycles that they have more ice than what the cycle can clear an then they have othr problems like water dripping inside the pan an eventually more ice up coil!!

    post some feed back thanks

The inside of the refrigerator get full of water condensation(lots)

    It is not condensation

The drain at the bottom of the freezer under the coils is clogged. Remove Icemaker if you have one, remove bottom floor of freezer, remove back panel of freezer. Use hairdryer to melt ice. ALL ICE MUST BE REMOVED. Use hot water and a turkey baster to get ice out of drain hole located about middle under coils. Be patient, do not chip ice with sharp tool. After ice is removed pour hot water down drain hole. Water must come out in drain pan under refrigerator(you may have to take front grille off to get to pan)

If Ice returns after a few weeks, you need to look at defrost thermostat which is usually clipped on cold coil at back of freezer. This part or the defrost timer could be defective.
