Question about Dell Latitude LS500 Notebook

2 Answers

Screen functions/circuits hi my dell LS is turning on and everything is working except the screen. I have plugged an external monitor and all is well. I have spoken to a Dell rep but he advised me that i should get parts of which I will not find due to the age of the notebook. So i would like to fix it myself

You are going to need a replacement video chip. If the laptop is so old that you cannot order the replacement part through them, then your best bet is to just buy a new computer. Best Buy sells laptops that are pretty nice for a very good price. I personally would look into getting an Acer or HP. If you want to repair the part yourself you are going to have to take it to a 3rd party technician and order the part off of a 3rd party website.

Laptop broken screen... plugged in Dell monitor, still doesnt work

You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

My acer aspire laptop 5336-2524 worked fine until today when i turned it on everything works fine except the screen stays black. What can i do to fix this

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

I have a CQ60-615DX and when I turn it on the screem is black, so what is the problem.

When you turned it on does it seem like the laptop booted up all the way except the screen is black? Do you hear the fan running, the hard drive spinning and everything seems to be ok except the screen is black?

Hi, what i would suggest is to use an external monitor and if you can get something on your external monitor, reseat the lcd cable or display cable refer to this website for instructions (http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd620/en/SM/display.htm#wp1105347) - if still same - the lcd has got to be replaced.

Hi grade laptop makes high pitched noise and the screen is blank

High pitch noise usually means the inverter board that drives the lamp behind the LCD display. If the rest of the laptop appears to work, for example, hard drive light blinking while booting, try hooking up an external monitor and hit whatever function key that switches you to the external monitor. If everything works, you may want to replace the inverter board yourself. It is not horribly hard if you are very careful. But it is not exactly a walk in the park kind of work.

If the rest of the laptop does not appear to work, the DC-DC step down power circuit is probably shot, which will also make a high pitch noise. In this case, you will have to replace the motherboard. Replacing a motherboard is a major pain in the behind. In most case, it is not worth the trouble if you have an older model.

Dell Latitude

If the system still works on an external monitor and functions normally otherwise, you might be able teo replace the LCD assy for about $150.

If the system no longer works on external either, then I'd say the system is no longer viable as an item to repair as it will be cheaper to replace it then to repair it. (New laptops start at around $500)

MY LAPTOP GIVE ME A BLACK SCREEN

hi!

black screen at startup? do you still see the Dell logo at startup? try pressing Fn+F8 at the same time at the black screen and see if it works. Or else, try a working external monitor and check if its a OS problem or a screen problem. You can also run a diagnostic test by holding down the Fn key while its off and then press the power button while still pressing on the function key to check if you will still see the diagnostic test for the LCD.
