Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My Hoover Zodiac 12 front loader washing machine overfills and overflows if I don't turn off the tap. Otherwise it completes the cycle. Is the problem likely to be the tap switch or in the programming? What should be the cost of repair?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Usually when the washer is overfilling the issue is with Water-inlet valve and/or Water Level Switch.
A defect in the water-inlet valve may mean that it's no longer able to shut off completely when the electricity has been turned off to it. If this occurs, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub. In time, the water may accumulate substantially. If this happens, you need to replace the valve. A defect--or an obstruction--in the water-level switch may mean that it can't tell the water to shut off. So the machine overflows. This switch senses the water level in the clothes tub. It's usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. You can either clear any obstruction in the tube or replace the water-level switch. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Hoover 705 , overfills and fllods laundry can it be fixed

On my hoover 200m (top loader) I had a similar problem. I turned off the machine & unplugged it. Closed water taps both hot & cold. Manually emptied machine with large cup. Undid bottom outlet hose by unclipping. The residual water will come out! I undid the 3 screws on the control panel. Tilted the control panel forward. The water level is manual control using a diagaphram pressure control to set water level. This had a hose. I disconnected both ends and used a bicycle pump to blow air thorough it. Underneath I disconnected where the hose goes into machine (clips) and also blew air from the top to check it was clear. After reconnecting everything the machine now does not stop filling and does not overflow anymore. Hope this helps.

The cold water inlet is slow to fill machine but the hot water inlet works fine

Hi just read your posting.Could you please supply the model of your hoover and tell me if it is a front or top loader. The fault on your machine is due to a faulty cold water valve or dirty inlet filter.Turn the cold tap off and remove the cold water hose from the tap end and check to see if the little filter at the end of the hose is blocked. If it is, clean it and put back the hose to the tap and try a wash cycle. Please reply with additional information and to tell me how you got on with the filter.

Washer is overfilling & leaking

Are you using front loader only detergent?(oversudsing) Overfilling is either a pressure switch, or pressure chamber is blocked(located toward underside of outer bowl approx 6 inches long) this is only in older machines with extensive cold washes.
