You just install in to the socket and tight the screw. Most of the drive can easily push and fit format. But if it just the drive then you need to open up backside cover and fix it. If you can able to do that then well other wise show to service center.

Cd instil

if you are trying you to say there is a CD in CD-Rom drive and you can't get it out, then it is quite easy to remove the CD. There is a very small hole by the eject button on CD-ROM. You will need to put a very thin and strong tool and push it forward through the hole. This will eject CD.

Hi i recieved a secondhand dell laptop. but no cd/dvd rom drive was in it. one was included but was not set up into laptop. so how do put the drive into laptop.

It simply slides in the slot in the edge of the machine, & will mate with a connector at the rear of the slide in socket.. It should work once connected.

Unable to detect or use my cd rom

Is this in a desktop or laptop? I will assume it is in a desktop

This could be caused by the jumper setting on the CD ROM is the same as another drive in the PC.

It could also be a loose or damaged IDE cable / power cable to the CD ROM.

Open the case of the PC and verify the IDE and power cable are securely in the back of the drive and the IDE cable is securely in the motherboard port.

If there is a 2nd device connected to the same IDE cable, verify one is set to MASTER and the other is set to SLAVE. Cable Select (CS) setting can fail - placing both devices as MASTER/SLAVE will eliminate a failed CS logic.

If this is in a laptop, turn the comptuer off and remove the battery and AC power. Remove the CD ROM (if the unit can be swapped) and re-insert the drive back in the laptop. Reboot the laptop with the drive in the laptop and test.

Welcome to Fixya

This can happen due to Three problems.

1) Might have disabled the DVD rom. To check this, Goto control panel->DeviceManager->CD/DVD Rom. Where you can enable/disable the device.

2) The Drivers for the DVD rom may not be installed or may be corrupted. Please use the drivers cd or visit the dell site to update the drivers.

3) The CD DVD Drive may be loosely connected. If can risk at opening the chasi and try connecting it properly

The system may need to be restarted if you perform any of the above activities.

Rate the solution appropriately.

Os instalation will not load

Hi Dobssand, the most common reason for a CD-ROM (With a Windows CD in it) does not start to load is the motherboard's bios is not set correctly. While in the bios go to the title Boot & enter boot order. This is a common boot order for a PC.
1st boot device = [Floppy disk drive]
2nd boot device = [CD-ROM drive] (Model number of the CD-ROM drive).
3rd boot device = [Primary Hard Disk Drive] (Model number of drive).

Second most common reason is the data cable to the CD-ROM drive is loose or not fully connected either at the CD-ROM or at the motherboard. (Check it).
If you choose not to enter your bios, you can still get the CD-ROM drive to boot the Win CD in this fashion. Load the Win CD into the CD-ROM drive. Power off the system. Than power on the system & start to press the F8 key once every two seconds. Windows "Please select boot device:" window will open. Using your keyboards up & down arrow keys high-light the CD-ROM drive that has the win CD in it & press the enter key. Windows should start to load. If you receive an error message stating windows can not find your hard disk drive. Than you must enter your bios & go to the title Boot. Your hard disk drive is not listed in the boot order section. Worst case! Your hard disk drive may be faulty. Find the manufactures name printed on a large white sticker on once side of the HDD. Go to the manufactures web site & download their drive setup software so you can create a bootable floppy disk. This will allow you to check/test the HDD & format it for a windows installation.

Or is this not the issue you are having?

Good luck!
Mike

CD ROm not working, not reading discs

Try to clean the lenses using a soft cloth.
Also check the connections of the CD Drive.
Also check in contro panel>device manager wether you have a CD Rom drive over there or not. (Mostly if its not there then connections are loose)
In most of the cases connections are loose. And even after that cleaning the lenses if the CD Rom dosent read then may be there is some problem inside the CD Rom assembly or its broken. You will have to get it repaired.

Re: lg tower xp install

Hi,
the boot device setup in the bios, if you set atapi-cd rom as first boot device. then hdd second. and fdd last.
it appears that you have a faulty connection from the IDE ( 40-80 wire cable ) that runs from the motherboard Primary/secondary slot. check the cable goes from motherboard to hard-drive and is connected firmly, also check the jumper blocks ( small white plastic block ) is set to master or slave on both devices ( cd-hard-drive ) if both on same cable set hard-drive to slave and CD rom to master. if they are both set as master or slave, they will conflict with each other.
if you need further help, please mail back.
