Question about Fisher and Paykel Dryers

1 Answer

We have a Fisher & Paykel ED56 Dryer. It was going very slowly, really struggling to move so my husband took the back off, couldn't find anything wrong except it was dusty so we cleaned it thoroughly, put it back together and now it doesn't work at all. Is it possibly the motor and if so is it worth fixing or getting a new motor?? It was always an excellent dryer until now. This is the only problem we have ever had with it. Please help. Joan

Hi, kingy77 requested clarification on what happened with our dryer.... Unfortunately it was the motor and you can't just replace them, (on that particular model) they need a conversion kit as well, so all up it was going to cost $300 to fix it. We bought a new one for $465 instead. But we got a free quote on fixing it and the guy initially thought it was the capacitor because that's usually what it does when that's gone. He replaced that first, then turned it on & it seemed great but he said we'll just wait for when it changes direction first to make sure. When it tried to change direction, it stopped again & then he knew it was the motor. The capacitor was only $80 to fix, (which he just took out again & didn't charge us for his time even) if you decide to get a free quote on it I wish you luck & hopefully that's all that's wrong with yours!!
    Regards, Joan H

Could be the door switch or temp sensor. To check the door switch put pressure against the door and see if it stops. Check the slot the door hits to see if there is anything loose in there.

My F&P ED56 dryer just hums when it is turned on. The lights come on and it hums, but it doesn't turn or blow air. We have checked the belt (that is OK), the drum can spin by hand, there is no lint...

sounds like it maybe the motor, here are other reasons the drum won't turn and how to open the dryer. Good Luck Tim:

Fisher & Paykel ED56 not working

Replace (repair) the exhaust sensor this looks like a transistor with the middle leg cut off. it is situated below the lint filter but can only accessed by removing the back panel, top panel (or rear screws to allow the removal of the drum). drum and then front panel to remove the connector from the mainboard. If you follow the exhaust tube once the back is off you will see a single phillips head screw that is the sensor. check the wires to the circuit board are not broken or dry joints or just replace it. sorry i had a spare machine i scavenged from to fix my problem so i dont know where to buy new.

HI, this will occur if the timer control module or control board has failed. replacing the timer or control will fix this issue.

My fisher and paykel dryer ( mod# ED56 ) wont start, power is on

I had this same problem with my Dryer. It is making the few quick beeps because it thinks the door is still open. Near the bottom of the opening to the dryer there is a sensor switch that gets pushed in when you shut the door. Try holding the switch in with a knife or something and then start the dryer with the door open to check if that is the problem.
After i did this, i closed the door and my dryer started as normal.

your rear bearubg is mnost likely failed. and the back plaer is now hitting against the drum.
Part number (Fisher & Paykel Dryer Rear Drum Bearing Kit Part 479317)
you can replace this eazily by yourself.
check that the belt is over both rollers as well.. sometimes they slip off one of them.. especailly if moved around.
but this rear bearing is very bad. If you can find a skateboard bearing. it will fit nicely too. a much cheaper replacement and works fine. must get a good quility one lol (but any flate bearing is fine if you can find some in your workshop or neighbours lol
