Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I'm trying to determine whether my new rx-v665 (store display model)is defective or is incapable of doing what I expect it to do. Examples are: when I connect a Samsung Blu-ray ''hdmi'' out to ''hdmi1'', I expect to output A/V signal through ''component video monitor out'' to my TV. I get a blank screen. However, if I use the blu-ray ''component + optical link'' to the ''av1 input'', video/audio passes ok. Likewise, composite out (rca y-w-r) from my satellite rcvr to ''av5'' gives me sound but no video. Obviously when utilizing those inputs, I select and display those inputs on the front panel. Consensus among my audiophile friends is that the electronic switches have blown due to ESD from customers ''touchy-feely''. Could that be possible or is this unit just too complicated to be used by the average Home Theater enthusiasts?

If you want picture to pass through the receiver to TV via HDMI then HDMI is the only cable that you can use for both connections. Video signals designed for an HDMI output will not pass through component video connections, they are not compatible. Your best result will be to either continue using your component video connection but connected directly to the television or use the HDMI connection on the TV if available.

don`t open it yet

check ur speaker wires, try disconnect all wires from back of unit and then try to turn on unit .
if it stays on whit no wires attached than u have short connection at speaker wires .
if doesn`t come on then try to fasten screws at back of the unit ,

My RX-V665 receiver lost its sound for no apparent reason while we were watching a show. It was in HDMI mode and has the message "Decoder Off". The sound works with a DVD and a CD, just not...

It's telling you the digital decoder is now "off" and will treat everything like 5.1. THAT is a selection you choose, not a status that spontaneously appears. Perhaps someone unknowingly touched the remote while playing.

Get the manual out and read up on DECODER. Page 61 (Troubleshooting: NO SOUND) suggests "A proper audio decoder is not selected". Try AUTO.

Or, track the digital source of your TV audio back to make sure it still works.

I have a Yamaha RX V665 and I am unable to change the volume

The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.

RX-V665 Yamaha reciever has been working great. Use it for surround sound and outside, zone two speakers. Recently started turning off during movies. I run blu-ray through receiver. When playing Star Wars...

You may find a solution by doing some of the things I have tried - see below

I recently puchased this model to replace an older Yamaha system that also had this shut-off problem. The new RX665 system has the same problem but I check the impedance setting using the instruction in the manaul anyway. The problem persists. I have check all speaker wire to make sure nothing was touching. I did find one wire touching on the center speaker but the problem persist.

Since the problem followed me when I moved and with a new amp, I am beginning to think I am have a speaker that's causing this - maybe the sub.

I have a Yamaha RX - V665 and the right rear surround works only part of the time.

Start by using an old test speaker and connect it directly to the right surround output with a short wire and monitor it.

If it sems to work with no issues, you either have a bad connection at receiver or speaker, or a break in the speaker wire somewhere.

If you have the same problem with the test speaker, you have a rgt. rear output issue in the receiver and it needs repair.

Hope this helps
