Try the command below in your terminal. (copy and paste and enter)

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so cheese

This will open cheese. check whether your camera is working.

How to install my veo stingray into ubuntu

Many users are switching over to the Ubuntu operating system, which is a type of Linux distribution, in order to work on their computers. Often people will need to use their webcam in order to meet with others online. Fortunately, you can install most webcams onto Ubuntu, and they will work just as well as they do on Windows or Mac systems

Set up the webcam in a place where you will be able to see your face on the screen. Connect the webcam to your computer. Ubuntu should automatically recognize your camera. Test your camera by using Cheese. Open the console and type "Sudo Apt-Get Install Cheese" then press "Enter." Cheese should then install onto your computer. Run Cheese. If your webcam appears and the image comes in fine, your webcam was configured properly. webcam in ubuntu

How can i find my cam on asus eee pc 1000h

You need to install a webcam related software like Skype or Cheese.
You can find it on the ubuntu software center or install it directly from a terminal:

sudo apt-get install skype cheese

Installed ubuntu on my gateway NV53 and now my built in webcam cant be found

Download and install Cheese using the ff. steps:
  1. Open a terminal window.
  2. Type in the following command: sudo apt-get install cheese
  3. Run Cheese. Cheese should automatically detect your webcam and display live video stream.
  4. To record video or take a snapshot, click either on photo or video and select Take a Photo or Start recording.

    • If Cheese doesn't display the output from your webcam, test that the problem is not with Cheese before trying anything else by using one of the programs in the next section.
    • If Cheese displays a garbled picture or one with poor colour/brightness/contrast, go to the Ubuntu wiki Webcam Troubleshootingpage for steps to resolve this.

Software/drivers

No driver is neccessary. When you plug the camera into the USB port, Ubuntu should automatically mount the camera. If not, Open a command prompt and type the following command and post the output here:

dmesg | tail

You say you're running Ubuntu/Kubuntu. Which on are you using? Kubuntu uses the KDE desktop rather than GNOME, the default for Ubuntu. The user interface is different.

If the camera is mounted as it should be, it would be mounted under /media (Usually /media/disk), and that directory would contain all your pictures.
