Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

The sound is not working on my Dell Inspiron E1505 (only error beeps). The device manager states that my sound card is functioning. The sound did work for a couple of hours when I bumped my laptop but then when I restarted, it didn't work again. Could the card be loose? If yes, is this something I can fix?

Make sure the mute is off and your volume is turned all the way up. Next, click on the link below and then choose your operating system and then select "Audio" and then "Creative Labs Driver"

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400/E1505&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

The only way to really tell if your sound card is loose is to open the bottom cover of your laptop and wiggle your card and then press it firmly into the motherboard.

Inspiron E1505 Sound levels are very low and distorted. Can the sound card be replaced? How do I determine wether it is a hardware, software, or cpu issue?

if the sound is very low & distorted, then that is a hardware sound issue. Sound card can be replaced by calling your pc provider. CPU issues can occur if you experience slow pc performance. If there are error messages coming from windows, that is a software issue.

My sister in law was messing with my Dell Inspiron 1505. I now cannot get the sound to work. I don't know what she loaded but when I start the computer it says it found new hardware, but the wizard...

Hello, i think you have to check if she muted it on the task bar line, by double clicking it and checking it. Or you can also check from; right clicking on the my computers and clicking on manage then click on device manager, scroll to where you see sound and double click it and see if it is disabled or enabled.

Problem with audio configuration Dell e1505

Your computer is drunk and can't speak properly. The sound will work fine once it is sober. It's a small device so half a can is like a keg to you or me.

Ok, now that that is out of my system, chances are that you damaged your board. It may be possible that you can pull the board out, clean it with isopropyl alcohol and it may start working. Beer leaves kind of a semiconductive residue in its wake. Or, more simply you can plug in a usb sound card, which you can get from anywhere from $5-$500, depending on how fancy you need it. The other option is of course to replace the motherboard, which is my least favorite thing to do with a laptop. :D

If you have more questions please let me know.

If the device manager says hardware is installed, then you have an issue with the hardware. Call Dell for replacement system board.

My Dell Inspiron E1505's wireless switch is off.

This happened to me using a Dell Inspiron laptop. The wireless switch was disabled and the answer was supposed to use both the blue Fn and regular F2 function key to enable wireless connection. I tried Fn and F2 together and it did not work. I tried just F2 alone and it worked.

No audio on dell inspiron e1505

Have you worked through the troubleshooter on the Dell support site, available here for xp and here for vista?
If that doesn't help, let us know your os and what steps you've taken to check the device manager, etc.
What audio are you not getting playback on, if the system sounds are working correctly?

No sound on my laptop dell inspiron E1505

I found many references to this issue but I am not sure which may apply to your problem. Here is a set of steps to follow from another site: (Assumes Vista and Realtek)

  • Open Vista’s Control Panel (Window | Control Panel)
  • Open the Realtek Audio Manager (not “Sound”)
  • In the navigation bar in the far right, there is a little yellow folder icon. It is just below “Device advanced settings” and above “ANALOG”. Click the folder icon.
  • Click “Disable front panel jack detection” so that a yellow check mark shows up. Hit “OK”, and close the Realtek HD Audio Manager. That should re-enable the sound.

Dell Inspiron E1505 Audio

Hi artifax,

I have a suggestion/solution for this that I need you to try. Here it is:

first, go to add or remove programs, look for Creative/SoundBlaster and Sigmatels listed there and uninstall every one of them. Then, go to Device manager and uninstall Creative/Soundblaster/Sigmatel under sound and game controllers. reboot the system.

now download and run this,
E1505/6400 BIOS
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R158849&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400/E1505&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=10430&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=9&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=212350

then download and install this,
Sigmatel Audio Driver
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R171789&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400/E1505&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=8907&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=3&fileid=235761

Do not install any Creative first, then let me know if this works.

I'll be waiting for your reply.

To turn up the master volume on most dell laptops, use
Fn + PageUP

the FN key is usually blue.

To turn it down use Fn+PageDown
