Thank you for addressing my problem.

Signal loss is not the problem.

No display is visable with aid of a flashlight.

I tried a different external power supply and had the same results.

I've been running this computer with different monitor the last three days with no ptoblem.

  • gschwanke Feb 08, 2010

I approached this problem thinking there was a 80-90% probability that it was a bad cap, as there is a solution posted for a VL 1918 monitor with almost identical symptons which involved bad caps. However, that model uses a different circuit board than mine. I've already replaced the cap at the DC input. I was hoping someone else may have had the same problem. Thanks for your input.

This is due to system goes to stand by mode or Hibernate mode. To disable, go to power management and disable or incrase the time for the same.

As per your description, it clearly shows that your monitor is having dry solder in the circuit board. Need to repair the same with the help from expert engineers or Service center experts.

Hello.

So, since you know that you have a bad monitor, I'm figuring that you are looking for suggestions as to the problem with your monitor.

Sounds like one or more bad capacitors to me. Unless you have repaired electronics, I would not recommend that you replace them yourself. You would need a soldering iron and other tools as well as follow safety guidelines.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
The problem that you are facing is not with the power or the signal from from the computer. Since the light in the front stays green. Your LCD screen itself has gone bad. It requires the replacement of the display chip inside the monitor. Generally the monitors are covered under 2 - 3 yr service contracts.
I tried looking up for spares and service parts for the monitor online and was not able to find any.

I would request you to get in touch with the manufacturer to get the same serviced or replaced.

Thanks for using fixya

There are two possibilities why the screen goes blank after a while, one is if you lose the signal input from the computer, it will go blank, to test that if you slect menu or setup button from the front panel. it shoud bring up menu, but I expect you have tried that already.
The other is the lamps or the lamp driver is faulty. To test that, make sure the computer is connected and when the screen goes blank shine a flash light on the screen at an angle and see if you can the images. If you can it is the lamps or the driver supply.
Third possibilty is the main power supply is failing due to some heat problem.
Hope this helps.

I am sorry, I have no other suggestions except to say that generally when things fail after a few seconds is either due to a a component heating problem or a failing capacitor problem.

I have seen this happen on a friend's Dell monitor, in that case he dedied it was more economical to get a new one.

    Sorry.

Screen goes blank when first turned on, have to keep restarting m

Hello,

If you turn the monitor off then about 1020 sec turn it back on and have a picture for five sec again it sound like the power supply in the monitor. but if that did not solve the problem, the picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault and will need to be replace.

I advice you replace the picture board on the screen of your monitor to solve the problem of the blank screen.

Take care.

Acer monitor only display for about 3 to 4 second

Sounds like a busted syncing circuit, probably due to a condenser. It takes about that time to heat or overcharge, at which point a safety feature will turn off the display.

You just MIGHT get some more life hours out of the monitor by tuning it to a lower resolution, but it will buy you a month even in the best hypothesis.

I'm afraid the monitor is in for a repair/replacement.

Screen goes blank after 2 seconds

Do you have the video set to a range that this display cannot handle? Try rebooting into Safe Mode and set the resolution down to 800x600 or 1024x768 and see if it that will get you back. If so, then look up the specs of the display and set it no higher than it's max.

If it physicaly powers OFF, then you probably have a power issue.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

The power -inverter board probably needs an overhaul.
I redo many of these.
If the screen was pinkish or flickering before it finally got to this point, it is possible that a bulb has gone bad.
