Problems using Nikkor AF 35-70mm F3.3-4.5 with Nikon D80?

The sensor on the D80 is smaller than a piece of 35mm film. This means the camera will only use the center portion of the image cast by the lens. This reduces the angle of view, effectively increasing the focal length. The 35-70mm will give you an angle of view similar to a 52-105mm lens on a film camera. Likewise the 70-210mm lens will give you an angle of view similar to a 105-315mm lens.

It sounds like you need a new lens. This particular camera does not have an autofocus motor built in, which means it can only use lenses that have a motor already built in. Look for any Nikon lenses that have the AF-S in their name.

Amazon Search for "Nikon AF-S": http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Nikon+AF-S&x=0&y=0

This is also a good "general use" lens: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-18-55mm-3-5-5-6G-AF-S-Nikkor/dp/B000LWJ1ES/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1298926690&sr=8-10

Hope this helps.

I just purchased my d60 camera, unfortunately I bought it on craigslist, it came with a nikkor 50mm lense, I wanted a auto focus lense to take some sports pictures, I took it to shutterbug camera shop and...

That's odd that Shutterbug camera shop couldn't tell you everything you needed to know about that camera. I looked it up in a PDF manual because the new "small frame" cameras require different lenses as is the case here Autofocus with this camera is only supported by AF-S and AF-I lenses the lens is equipped with the autofocus motor other types of lenses will not autofocus.

The "kit" lens for this camera is the AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor 18-55 F3.5/5.6G VR.

Now if Shutterbug camera shop mounted an AF-S lens and the camera didn't autofocus then they are right in saying it's broke. I just find it strange they couldn't tell you that straight up. You need to install an AF-S lens and try it, again they may have put the wrong type on it and of course it won't work.

I take it that you don't have the camera manual?

If not go into Google search Type in Nikon D60 PDF manual and click search fifth one down on the first page is what you need click on it and download your "new" manual

Here is the link I used

http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp=ldymls&xhr=t&q=Nikon+D60+Digital+PDF+manual&cp=28&pf=p&sclient=psy&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=Nikon+D60+Digital+PDF+manual&pbx=1&fp=64f84e119f52b91a

See if that helps, personally I think you just need the correct lens.

What type of lens works with this Nikon N8008s AF 35mm SLR? Thank you, Larry

Any of the Nikon Auto Focus(AF) lenses should work fine with it. There are also a number of fine aftermarket lenses made for your 8008, by Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Quantaray and others. Be sure you get the Nikon AF lenses, as they make the same lenses for Sony and Canon. You cannot use the Lenses made for another brand, as they will not fit, work right, and can damage your Nikon.

I have a Nikon D50 which I frequently interchanges lenses. My AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm lens has 3 plastic retention flanges attaching to the camera body, and two of these have broken off. Can this be repaired...

without seeing pictures, I'd say you could TRY some plastic epoxy or some type of plastic-specific adhesive. i'm assuming you have the pieces that were broken off. otherwise, i'd say get a new lens...they are relatively reasonable used.

I believe you're hearing the VR in the lens adjusting. Try turning the VR off and see if you hear the sound. If not, then you have a normal operating lens.

18-55mm lens won't zoom

DON'T TRY TO FIX THIS YOURSELF! You will only add to the damage. If your lens is in warranty, contact Nikon for instructions to get it repaired. If it is out of warranty, I would either pay Nikon for the repair or take it to a camera repair man.

Auto focusing problem

The D40 will only autofocus with the Nikkor AF-S lens...look for the AF-S in the lens title. For 3rd party lens, only SIGMA with the USM title will autofocus.

To use the T-adaptor...you will need to use the "Manual" mode of the camera.
