Your description sounds like a convergence problem---red or blue out of position will leave green visible.

If this is the problem I can tell you what parts need to be replaced and how to do it. A convergence repair if you or someone you know can do it will cost you under 30 dollars for the parts.

Look at the attached photos and tell me if they look anything like your problem.

No two sets with this problem will look exactly the same but the pictures should tell you if it is the kind of problem you have.

GHOST: May be described as "Out of Convergence" but ghost is still attached to main image.

    • If the ghost adjustment is off with a lower value, there will be a ghost to the left of the square.
    • If the ghost adjustment is off with a higher value, there will be a ghost to the right of the square.
  2. Once you get the square to look good without ghosts, press "SELECT" to save any data values that have been changed.
  3. Press the "EXIT" button three times to return to normal picture.
  4. Adjustment is completed
  5. I HOPE THIS WAS HELPFUL, big IRISH.

HItach cp-s860 problem

I have the same Hitachi CP-S860 and have found the problem is with the convergence on the left and right sides of the picture. The one I am working on has a bad ghosting problem also - you can really see the ghosting when the MENU is on the screen. The center convergence is OK. Following Pics show Circle / Cross pattern - 1st pic the red, green and blue are turned on - 2nd pic shows green and blue on only. I do not have the service manual for this set so I do not know the convergence procedure on this one. I have mostly been repairing NEC, Sanyo, Panasonic and Christie LCD & DLP Projectors.
