With those parts replaced the fault is in the control board on the rear of the refrigerator. It is responsible for initiating defrost.

GE Profile jvm1090ww 01 SN ZR958136 s Convection temperature does not get above 360F when set at 450F. Could never brown meat or bake.

The convection heater is control according to the temperature of the part n 3014 Thermister
Part Number: AP2025611 made by GE

So this is acting like a temperature sensor and it seem that is giving wrong indication to the control panel and switch off the heater at wrong temperature.

So you should replace the thermister.

You can find this and all a other parts of your oven in this link.

GE side by side. defrost heater does not come on. Installed new heater, no luck.

When the timer turns off the compresor to defrost it sends power to the defrost terminator (round thing atach to the freezer coil ) who energized the heaters if the coil is frozen ,at this time you can check if there's power to the terminator ,if not timer is bad, and if the timer sends power to the terminator and it won't close when coil is frozen up the terminator is bad.

Where is the defrost timer located on GE model# GSS20IEMDWW side by side refrigerator? My freezer works but the other side is warm. I took the freezer panel off and it had a thick layer of frost...

This model does not have a defrost timer. It has a motherboard. You must jump out the plug to the main board to test the defrost circuit. In order to do this take the cover off of the main board, find the three wire connector on the base of the main board, connecter is normally blue in color. On the board itself it will identify termials as line, defrost, and compressor. To test you must create a jumper wire.Install the jumper in the plug terminals identified as line and defrost. This will turn the defrost heater on. If the heater does not come on, look for a defective heater or a defrost thermostat(mounted on the top of the evaporator). If the heater does come on replace the thermister(located on top of evap, white in color and has two white wires part#WR55x10025)

Test to see if circuit board is okay

From Appliance Aid.com

WHY Force the Arctica to Defrost if it Dont Want to? Don't bother using the self-diagnostics feature to force a defrost cycle. On some models those with control knobs - which technically are not Arctica models (Arctica models have plastic liners with touch pads Standard GE electronic models with metal liners have knobs) servicers would have to invest in parts to build a test control panel, complete with touch pads and digital displays, to achieve this (self-diagnostics) function. Instead, save both time and money by following this helpful Arctica Tip: If a frosted evaporator or a frost block is apparent, initiating a defrost cycle may not reveal anything helpful anyway. First, disconnect power and then simply check the resistance across the defrost heater and bimetal circuit at the main board located at the backside. The two associated wires at the main board are almost always BLUE and ORANGE. The heater/bimetal circuit should normally read around 30 ohms roughly. Next, check the evaporator thermister at the main board between thermister input terminals J1-4 (Blue/White) and J1-5 (Blue) to determine that its resistance is greater than 1.2k ohms but not more than 166.8k ohms depending on its ambient temperature. If thermister resistance falls within this range according to temperature (Approximately: 6k ohms at 70F 16.3k ohms at 32F 51k ohms at 0F) and the heater/bimetal circuit is diagnosed as good, then replace the main board.

Frost in frostless freezer, fan not blowing into warm fridge

Hi,
There are 2 things that cause these to not defrost. Kinda like the "Achilles heel" of GE fridges. The first one is the Defrost heater itself. And the second is the evaporator thermister (GE calls it a "sensor"). They are both very easy to replace. The part numbers are; WR51X10101 (heater) and WR55X10025 (sensor). If you don't have a local appliance parts retailer, just plug those numbers into a search engine. I highly recommend getting both parts because if the sensor hasn't failed yet, it will. The same goes for the heater...

Now for the fun stuff... Turn the temp knobs all the way counter clockwise to kill power to the fridge. Unload all the food from the freezer and remove all the shelves and the basket. Remove the screws that are holding the evap panel (the flat panel on the back wall, it's about 2 1/2 ft tall). Remove the panel to expose the evaporator. You'll see the heater at the very bottom of the evap connected by 2 screws, remove these and pull the heater out. Your new heater comes with instructions on how to install it.

After you have done that, look at the top of the evap. On the left, you'll see a little white sensor clipped to one of the evap tubes (shiny little clip), that has 2 wires feeding it. Remember which tube it's clipped to then unclip the sensor and pull it toward you. Snip the wires right at the base of the old sensor and completely remove it (leave the wires in there). Now separate those 2 wires and strip about 3/8" of insulation off. At this point, you are ready to follow the instructions that came with your new "sensor". Oh! and if it's all frosted up on the evap? Take this time (before you re-install the panel) to use a blow dryer and melt it away. All that'll be left to do is rebuild it.

There ya go! Job completion time= ~45 minutes. Easy breezy, right?

If this has been helpful, please don't forget to rate my solution. Thanks!

SG

GE sxs defrost problem

How long does it take for the frost to build up, improper placement of the bi-metal will cause a defrost issue by not letting the heater stay on long enough.

Let me know how you make out.

Thanks,

Ge rifrig will not defrost

you have a defrost issue not being able to verify circuits on the mother board i would replace the high limit, what you are calling the termination stat this stat stays closed unless the temp hits 140, thats right 140 degrees f and change the evaperator sensor.
evap sensor can cause missed defrosts or no defrosts
high limit part number wr50x10068
sensor number is wr55x10025
each part is 7-15 dollars each
