Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Control locked will not unlock

The "Control locked" button - on the clothes washer - is stuck and will not unlock even after unplugging it. There were no obvious signs of any problem until the cycles finished and after opening and closing the front washer door the light did not go out. None of the other buttons will work etiher. Why is this happening and what can be done to unstick it?

It might be a child lock. You have to press and hold the a button for 5 seconds. You have to find which button yourself by looking at the panel (it usually says which one is child lock on it). Could "end of cycle" or "load signal" button.

How do I unlock a whirlpool duet washer

from a previous discussion:

Wait at least three minutes after the end of the cycle before attempting to unlock your Whirlpool washer. The door will not unlock until the motor speed equals 0 and 180 seconds have elapsed since the motor control unit received the "Stop" command. If the water in the washer is warmer than 122 degrees Fahrenheit or the water level is set higher than Wool, Delicate or Hand Wash, the washer must drain before the door latch will unlock 2 Hold down the "Control Lock" button on your Whirlpool washer for three seconds at the end of the washing cycle. Listen, and when you hear the unlatching sound, the door should open.3 If your Whirlpool washer did not unlock at the end of Step 1, press and hold the "End of Cycle" button for five seconds to manually reset your washing machine.4 Unplug your Whirlpool washer and leave it unplugged for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, plug your washer back in. The washer's programming should be reset and the door should open.5 Manually unlock the door of your Whirlpool washing machine. Make sure to unplug the appliance before completing the manual unlock. Use a screwdriver to remove the metal strip, called the toe panel, at the bottom of the washing machine. Once you've removed the toe panel, reach up inside the front panel of the washer and feel around for the door latch. Locate the tear-drop shaped tab at the bottom of the door latch and pull it gently. When you hear a click, the door should open.

Control lock button is on and will not clear to wash clothes

Hi, Whirlpool makes their control lock very confusing. Often times, people will look on the control panel and the control lock light will go on and they can not figure out how to unlock the control panel. They will try pressing and holding the cancel button and unplugging the washer or dryer to reset it. None of these options work. All you need to do is press and hold the end of cycle button for 3 seconds and the control panel will unlock. If that doesn't unlock your controls, then unfortunately your interface control board is just shorted and will need to be ordered and replaced to fix the issue.

My washer is stuck in control locked

The control can be unlocked by pressing and holding the End of Cycle button for 3 seconds or until the Control Locked indicator turns off. Unplug the machine for at least 30 minutes to forcibly reset the control and make sure and eliminate the possibility of an electronic glitch if the End of Cycle button does not unlock it. Replace the control if unplugging and the End of Cycle button fails to unlock it.

Press and hold the End of Cycle button for 3 seconds or until the Control Locked indicator turns off to unlock the control. You have to check the control for any stuck button and unstuck it if the control still cannot be unlocked with the End of Cycle button. The control needs replacing if no stuck button is found and unlocking it is not possible. Please let us know if that is the case and if you need further help. Just indicate the exact model number of the machine.

Control locked. How do I unlock it?

Press and hold the End of Cycle button for 3 seconds or until the Control Locked indicator turns off to unlock the control. The End of Cycle button is located at the extreme right of the console. Unplug the machine for at least 15 minutes to reset the central control unit if the control cannot be unlocked using the End of Cycle button. Let us know if the control cannot be unlocked even after the machine is unplugged.

Locking controls
The Control Lock prevents unintended use of the washer. You
can also use the control lock feature to prevent unintended cycle
or option changes during a cycle. When CONTROL LOCKED is
lit, all buttons are disabled. You can lock the washer while it is
operating.

To lock the controls
Select and hold END OF CYCLE SIGNAL for 3 seconds.
The CONTROL LOCKED status light glows.

To unlock the controls
Select and hold END OF CYCLE SIGNAL for 3 seconds until the
CONTROL LOCKED Status light turns off.

Control lock light will not go off.

Do you have any error codes?

Does water remain in the washer after the final spin?
If water remains in the washer after the final spin, then the door will not unlock. Drain/Spin or Spin Only to remove any remaining water from the washer. The door should unlock at the end of the cycle.
Is the door locked and the Add A Garment light on?
If the Add A Garment light is on, then the washer door will unlock after the Pause/Cancel button is pressed once. Pressing the Start button will restart the washer at the same point where it left off in the cycle.
Is the door locked and the Add A Garment light off?
If the Add A Garment light is off, then the washer door will unlock after the Pause/Cancel button is pressed twice. The door will not immediately unlock while the cycle is running due to a possible high-water level in the washer, high-water temperature, tumbling or spinning. It may take up to five minutes for the washer to stop spinning and draining before the door will unlock. You will hear the door click when it unlocks.
If Pause/Cancel does not work:
  1. Unplug washer or disconnect power for one minute.
  2. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
  3. Re-select the cycle and press Start.
NOTE: If the error remains on the display, call for service.

GHW9100LQ1 machine stuck in control lock mode

Press and hold the "END OF CYCLE SIGNAL" button for three seconds and it will unlock the control panel. At least, I think that is the button for the Whirlpool Duet. If you look closely at the front panel, it will clearly state "Press and Hold for 3 Seconds to Lock" on one of the panel buttons (should be all the way to the RIGHT HAND SIDE). This button is designed as a safety feature to prevent small children from being able to operate the washer and inadverntenty getting locked inside the unit. If holding the button fails, unplug the washer for at least 30 minutes to reset the computer. I hope this helps.

Door stuck Locked Control Locked light on

Try unplugging the washer for at 30 minutes to reset the computer, first. If this proves unsuccessful, you can retrieve you clothes by using the manual release. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r622155-kenmore_elite_whirlpool_duet_door_jammed

Once you retrieve your clothes, try running diagnostics on it. You can envoke the diagnostic sequence by selecting DRAIN/SPIN, NO/SPIN and then pressing any button under OPTIONS 4 times (must be the same button). The display should go to "C00" as the washer begins a sequence of tests that checks the fill functions, door lock, dispenser functions, motor speed, spin and drain. Allow the washer to run through the entire sequence and shut off. If anything is wrong an error code should be generated. Hopefully, all you had was a minor glitch. Let me know how things turn out. I hope this helps you.
