Choppy video/sound on HDTV

Hi, I have a Vizio HDTV GV42L and when I am watching HD channels, there are significant slowdowns, the video becomes weird as all kinds of squares show up and the sound is choppy. It's especially bad on CBSHD and ESPNHD. I know there might be a bigger issue because I have a HDTV CRT television in the bedroom and it does the same thing on that TV. Could it be my cable (with Comcast) or could it just simply be the HD channels? Or could it be something else? Please help. Thanks!

SOURCE: Vizio GV42L 42inch LCD/HDTV

there are several possibilities. first if the unit comes on and the "VIZIO" light turns white, but no picture or sound, then the main control board is most likely the issue. could be the LCD control board(s) depending on model one or two. and ultimately could be the power supply on the upper side....if the "VIZIO" light does NOT turn white, the whole power supply unit is out. after that, would have to scope the circuits to find out. Seems that the control board is the most common and tends to happen on many different sizes. new board will be around $350.00. Might get lucky and find a used one, but it MUST be EXACT part or it wont work right. if you dont find one or want to sell yours for parts, id be interested in the screen. can reach me at kmarlin@grandvalleygolfclub.com. thanks, keith

GV42L vizio tuner

Your vizio has an internal digital tuner. When you are on air, make sure that it is set up for digital. It might say DTV. Some sets have an analog only and digital only program option in the user menu, or as a seperate input. When in doubt, check your user manual.

Sound is choppy and stops...have to change the channel and go back to old channel for sound to start again?

I have this same issue --- it kinda sounds "digital" or choppy.. then after a few minutes sound will go away all together. If i change the channel the sound returns as normal.
Were you able to fix it?

I have a Visio GV42L HDTV loosing sound on some channels

That's a broadcast signal issue not TV issue. If it was the TV all channels would be the same.

Low sound on my Vizio 50" plasma

Most of HD channel broadcast in 5.1 channel sound. Regular channel broadcast in 2.0 channel sound. You TV only have 2 speakers so you will expect the sound will be low compare with the regular channel.

Hope this will help!

Plasma TV moving black and white lines

This is a result of poor conversion of a SD signal on a HD channel.  Go into your settings and adjust the h/v settings to move the line off the screen.  You can do this with a combination of v-position or vsize.

Multiple problems with Vizio Galevia GV42L

I have the same problem and it is just livable.  Turn on/off a couple of times and it will be OK.  Interestingly, The Samsung 40" LCD has a powersupply (bad capacitor) problem that seems to mimick this problem  There is a huge thread elsewhere on this Samsung issue, do a search.  Let me know if there is an explicit solution for this.
