Some vehicles have a heat reflective shield embedded in the windshield that may prevent your GPS unit from locating your current position. If this is a problem in your vehicle, use a external Antenna Kit (available as an accessory).

Just installed a sky magic eye to my digital tv upstairs, works perfect. however I have now lost all my digital channels!!

If you have installed a sky magic eye, i am assuming you have taken a sky feed from the RF outlet of the back of the sky box to view sky in another room, if this is the case, this is an analogue feed which you would have to tune in manually to the second tv, this would suggest that you havent lost the digital signal you just have you second tv selected on analogue. On the assumption your system is connected like the following;

Sky box connections

Main aerial input
sky sat input
rf out to second tv

Magellan wont get signal?

charge the battery fully, then set it outside in clear view of the open sky. it may take as much as 30 minutes to acquire the sats if that fails, try and leave it out longer...does it appear to try and link to ANY sats. on the map screen in the top righ t corner is a icon with bars in it, tap that and you should see it trying to acquire sats. if not, you might have other problems

Go outside with a clear view of the sky. You won't be able to get a signal indoors, or even in a parking garage. The unit needs a clear view of the sky.

Tom tom one

Either the GPS receiver section or the antenna section of your TomTom is faulty ..... or .... Software on your SD card is corrupted ....... or .... ( if you are in a country north of the equator ) and you don't have a clear view of the sky from east through south to west.
All the GPS satellite's are direct above the equator , very high up , this means if you look south and imagine a big rainbow in the sky but VERY VERY HIGH ( so it would be ' almost ' straight up ) this is where they are and your Tom Tom needs to have a clear view of this ' arc' in the sky. If a TomTom has lost the 'remembered' positions of the satellite's along this arc it can take it several minutes to scan and find them. Once it finds them , it remembers them so it can find them quickly again each time you switch on. So, try and make sure your TomTom can see this arc and has a clear view of it. Switch it on and leave it for about 4 or 5 minutes. If it doesn't get the signals then unfortunately it will be one of the first ' problems ' mentioned above. ..... Good luck.

Problems getting satellite signal sometimes takes as long as 20 minutes

Hello pdeland,

In order for your GPS to calculate its own location, it needs to receive data reports from four or more GPS satellites. This process is normally pretty fast and will typically take approximately two minutes. However, this assumes that the GPS has a clear view of the sky.

Obstructions such as tall buildings, trees and local terrain such as mountains and hills can affect your receiver's ability to "see" the sky. This is also true of GPS's used indoors or inside of a vehicle. A GPS receiver without a clear view of the sky can take a long time to get a fix on its own location.

The process can also take additional time if the GPS has been powered off for an extended period of time or if you have travelled a long distance (greater then 500 miles) since it was last turned on.

Hope this helps!

Not acquire sattelites

place the GPS outside with a clear 360 degree view of sky or as much of the horizon as possible and leave it for a few hours it needs to download the almanac from all satellites before doing this

from the Acquiring Satellite page press menu and make sure that the topline of the menu reads "Use With GPS off" if it reads "Use With GPS on" (this means it will not find any SAT's ie for indoor use) press enter to turn the GPS Receiver on
