Pry it open with a paper clip directly in the middle. Don't worry it won't break the player. Once the door is open enough to grab with your fingers, then slowly and carefully pull the door back as far as it will go, then press eject button and it should put itself back on track.

How do I change the default on my HP P30005dn to Tray 2?

Normal default on HP is tray 2, however if you do not have that tray set for plain paper letter size the printer will default to whichever tray has letter plain paper installed. You should also check your print driver default settings to ensure that tray 2 is set as default tray.

The printer recognizes tray 2 but it will not print to tray 2.

The printer will not print from any tray if tray one is pulled out. the paper path from any other tray still goes through tray 1\'s feed path (little slit in the front of the tray). if tray one is not in the printer it will not pull from any other lower tray.

Tray 1 doesn't feed while tray 2 has paper, after I empty the paper from tray 2, tray 1 work fine.

if you setup tray 1 any type, any size and tray 2 to plain, and letter size, it will allow you to use tray 2 for your plain letter jobs but will pull from the manual feed tray first only if the paper is in the manual feed tray if this makes any sense to you... please mark this as a fixya...

Empty Tray

@Derekns74 How do you remove the switch? My C3000 also reads "EMPTY TRAY" constantly, even if the tray is empty and clean. It does not display the "EMPTY GROUNDS" error only "EMPTY TRAY"

If I remove the tray it display "TRAY MISSING" but whenever I insert the tray again, it reads "EMPTY TRAY"

On one occasion when our power went out, it fixed the machine, so that it stopped reading "EMPTY TRAY," but after a day or two it stopped working and displayed the same EMPTY TRAY error message again.

HP Lazer 4300dtn keeps trying to print from tray 1. How can I set the default to tray 2?

Selecting which tray is used for printing

You can select how the printer pulls paper from the trays.

Understanding tray order

When the printer receives a print job, it selects the tray by trying to match the requested paper

type and size with what has been loaded in the trays. Using an "autoselect" process, it searches

all available trays for the paper that satisfies the request, starting with the bottom tray and ending

with the top tray (tray 1). The printer begins printing the job as soon as it finds the proper type/

size.

Note The "autoselect" process occurs only if no specific tray is requested for the job. If a specific tray

is requested, the job prints from the requested tray.

If paper is loaded in tray 1 and tray 1 is set TRAY 1 TYPE=ANY and TRAY 1 SIZE=ANY on the

Paper Handling menu, the printer will always pull paper from tray 1 first. See "Customizing

tray 1 operation" on page 47 for more information.

If the search fails, a message appears on the printer control panel display requesting that

you load the correct paper type/size. You can load that paper type/size, or you can override

the request by selecting a different type/size at the printer control panel.

If a tray runs out of paper during a print job, the printer automatically switches to any tray that

contains the same paper type/size.

The autoselect process changes somewhat if you customize tray 1 operation (as explained in

"Customizing tray 1 operation" on page 47) or set tray 1 for manual feed (as explained in
"Manually feeding paper from tray 1" on page 49). See if this works. Good luck !

Printing from wrong tray

I suffered from the same problem for a long time. We got Xerox Phaser 8550 and 8560 here. I choose on computer "tray 2" but the printer just print from tray 1 which is empty.

Today i figured it out! It's some configuration at the printer. So go to "Paper tray setp" -> "Tray 1 mode" and "Tray 2 mode" -> change to "static".

I figure it's like this. Before it was "dynamic", it probably means the printer decides it's better to use tray 1 even though you choose tray 2 - and this decision is stupid. Changing it to "static" fixes this.

Let me know whether this works for you too!

Hp laserjet 8150. i have a problem, tray 3 empty, always but have paper in tray 3

CAUSE: This error message indicates the paper present sensor flag in one of the trays does not detect paper in the tray. This could be caused by one of the following:
  • A broken sensor flag
  • The tray paper guides being set too close and restricting the paper from being pulled
  • The tray is not lifting
SOLUTION: Follow the steps below to determine the cause of a false TRAY X EMPTY message. Tray 2 empty
  1. Verify there is paper in the tray.
  2. Open the duplex unit access door just above Tray 2 on the front of the printer.
  3. Check the black-paper present flag by looking in through the duplex access door.
  4. Open and close Tray 2 and observe the tray lifting looking through the duplex unit access door.
The tray lifts but the error is still present
  1. Inspect the paper present flag on the PIU located just behind the pickup rollers. Ensure the flags are present and not damaged.
  2. Remove the tray guides from the tray and reseat them. Ensure the guides are seated correctly and are in the correct slot for the size paper in the tray. Add paper to the tray and try printing again.
  3. Try another known good tray, if available.
The tray does not lift and the error is still present
  1. Remove the tray, remove the paper in the tray, and inspect the lifting plate in the tray for damage. Ensure it will lift freely by hand.
  2. Try another known good tray if available.
Tray 3 empty
  1. Verify there is paper in the tray.
  2. Remove Tray 2.
  3. Open and close Tray 3 and verify it lifts by observing through the Tray 2 cavity.
  3. Try another known good tray if available.
The tray does not lift and the error is still present
  1. Remove the tray, remove the paper in the tray, and inspect the lifting plate in the tray for damage. Ensure it will lift freely by hand.
  2. Try another known good tray if available.
Tray 4 empty
  1. Verify there is paper in the tray
  2. Open Tray 4 and check for an extra **** of paper stored on the left side of the tray. This can cause the tray to stall while lifting and result in a tray empty message.
  3. Defeat the interlock in the vertical transfer unit (VTU). Open and close Tray 4 and watch the tray lift through the VTU door on the lower-right side of the printer.
NOTE: Follow troubleshooting steps for Trays 2 and 3 when working with the 2 X 500 sheet-input tray.
The tray lifts but the error is still present
  1. Check the tray guides to ensure the guides are seated corrected and are in the correct slots for the paper size in the tray.
  2. Inspect the paper present sensor for damage.
  3. Check for any broken plastic pieces in the tray that may be a broken sensor flag.
The tray does not lift and the error is still present Defeat the VTU interlock on the right side of Tray 4. Open and close Tray 4 and observe the tray lifting.

Hp Laserjet 8150. Does not pick up from Tray 3....but the tray does lift

Start by pulling out tray 2 and setting it on the floor. Next take out tray 3 and slide it into tray 2. Print from tray 2. If it works, take the tray on the floor and put it into the tray 3 slot. Print from tray 3. If it fails change the feed rollers.
