Quit out of pagemill and then go to pagemill in the applications folder and single click on it then go to the file menu and select get info. From here you can increase the memory that you require. You could also bump up the virtual memory by going to control panels and select memory and increase the amount of virtual memory. the usual setting I used to use was double the ram plus one. Hope this helps.

I need to know what RAM I should use in my Compaq Presario 5000 desktop computer

You have three Ram Memory slots.

EACH ram memory slot's maximum amount is 256MB
Total Maximum Amount for the computer is 768MB.

Uses SDR Sdram ram memory.

[Single Data Rate Sdram. Commonly just referred to as Sdram.

That is a misnomer.
All ram memory from SDR to DDR3 IS Sdram.

Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory.

SDR Sdram = Single Data Rate Sdram
DDR Sdram = Double Data Rate Sdram
DDR2 Sdram = Double Data Rate 2 Sdram
DDR3 Sdram = Double Data Rate 3 Sdram

Just thought i would share ]

Uses SDR Sdram that operates at a frequency rate of 133MegaHertz. (133MHz)
Also known as PC133.

Make sure it is,

A) Non-Buffered
B) Non-ECC
C) Low density
D) CAS Latency of 3 (CL3)
E) Uses 3.3 Volts

Wanting to findout what kinda ram i need to get for an upgrade. this computer only has 256mb.

SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM)
Almost all systems used to ship with 3.3 volt, 168-pin SDRAM DIMMs. SDRAM is not an extension of older EDO DRAM but a new type of DRAM altogether. SDRAM started out running at 66 MHz, while older fast page mode DRAM and EDO max out at 50 MHz. SDRAM is able to scale to 133 MHz (PC133) officially, and unofficially up to 180MHz or higher. As processors get faster, new generations of memory such as DDR and RDRAM are required to get proper performance.

DDR (Double Data Rate SDRAM)
DDR basically doubles the rate of data transfer of standard SDRAM by transferring data on the up and down tick of a clock cycle. DDR memory operating at 333MHz actually operates at 166MHz * 2 (aka PC333 / PC2700) or 133MHz*2 (PC266 / PC2100). DDR is a 2.5 volt technology that uses 184 pins in its DIMMs. It is incompatible with SDRAM physically, but uses a similar parallel bus, making it easier to implement than RDRAM, which is a different technology.

Adding RAM

You can buy Memory from newegg for example http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=DDR+SDRAM&x=0&y=0

you mentioned Dell Dimension 2400 as your pc. if this is your computer the type of ram you can install is DDR SDRAM and the maximum speed of the memory supported by this pc is 333MHz
So look for DDR SDRAM 333MHZ Here is one example give this one a try http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144202

also I would suggest you look into my Speed up guide to get your pc working better
currently this guide has 3 pages and you can read the first page here
http://www.bukisa.com/articles/13139_slow-computer-follow-this-how-to-series-to-clean-and-speed-it-up

in the end of the page you will find the link to the 2nd page ones you are done with one page of instructions.

Thanks, let me know if you require anything else.

I want to know if SDRAM and DDR@ are the same thing?

No SDRAM is single data ram, with 2 slots in the bottom and DDR is double data ram, with one slot at the bottom.

2 x 1GB Samsung PC2100 appearing as just 1GB (2 X 512MB)

Hi Patrick,
I see you're point. I know this, you can not run "more than" 512MB in any DIMM slot. That is shown at the bottom of page 10 & the top of page 11. You can not run both types of memory at the same time, even though the chart looks like you could. The description term on page 10, states; Users only can install either 168-pin SDRAM Module or 184-pin DDR DRAM Module at one time. (You can't run both). You can run 4x512MB in all banks using184-pin DDR SDRAM. Or you can run 4x512MB in all banks of 168-pin SDRAMs. Total of 2GB.
So you can not run 1GB of memory in any bank.

Click on the link click on USA

On page 6, I believe is the following specs.

• Two 168-pin DIMM slots for SDRAM memory modules
• Two 184-pin DIMM slots for DDR memory modules
• Support SDRAM up to 100 MHz / DDR up to 200 MHz memory bus
• Maximum installed memory is 1GB
Note: You cannot use SDRAM and DDR simultaneously.

Missing part

Hi, Sorry to tell you but this motherboard supports ONLY SDRAM memory. There is no way that a DDR memory will fit into this motherboard. What you can do is add another SDRAM memory for better performance.
