That is a very common problem. Normal wear and tear. You need a new hot surface ignitor.

Our Viking oven (approx. 8 or 9 years old) seems to be taking longer to preheat and we have noticed a gas smell when the oven is on. Last night, it took at least a half an hour to reach 350.

What type of Gas do you have?-- Natural Gas?-- or Bottled Gas?
The reason I ask, is that If your gas supply is in a tank,-- the tank might be low..)

If you have Natural Gas, and you suspect that you smell gas, You can call your Natural Gas supplier, and have them check for leaks.

So-- If you know you do not have a low gas tank, then you need to call your utility first.

It takes 28 minutes for the oven to reach temperature of 375 degrees. The ready buzzer goes off in about 15 minutes. The temperature is 300 degrees. Is there any adjustments to be made.

what is your oven if is gas or electric, if is gas easy to preheat by using lower heating element, if electric? that your unit have convection? or not? coz some probelm of the oven is, 1 if the oven is no convection or your oven is single heating in upper element,if your oven have a timer and cut off in 15minute? dont use timer, use a manual timer by it your self,if you want to reach the degrees that you want check your oven if der a lower and upper heating element with convection function, that the one is the most easy way to reach the degree that you want to reach.

Our oven doesn't heat and smells like gas

This sounds like a weak igniter, it would have to be a gas oven and the symptoms usually are: takes longer than normal to ignite the burner, may or may not smell gas in the oven, does not maintain set temperature or burner does not come on fully, eventually won't heat at all. On gas ovens, a glo igniter is like a light bulb, the more you cook, the faster it wears out. Bottom line, needs to be replaced. Good luck.

Oven is slow ot light and has a gas smell when

Hi, this sounds like a weak igniter, it would have to be a gas oven and the symptoms usually are: takes longer than normal to ignite the burner, may or may not smell gas in the oven, if it does light the burner, there may be delayed ignition (pop), does not maintain set temperature or burner does not come on fully, eventually won't heat at all. On gas ovens, a glo igniter is like a light bulb, the more you cook, the faster it wears out. Bottom line, needs to be replaced. Good luck.

When I first turn on the oven I can smell gas. This just started so I don't that it is a leak at a gas line connection poin. It must have something to do with an internal valve.

Have the Glow bar ignition, thermocouple and gas regulator valve checked. It is not un-common for some gas smell as the Glowbar heats the thermocouple bulb.
This in turn when reaching the correct temperature activates the gas regulator. If the Glow bar is not providing ignition quick enough. More gas can be released before combustion is initiated. This extra can be the smell you are experiencing now.

Best to have the unit serviced by a qualified technician to be safe.

Good luck Luck be safe!
