New shifters for deore xt x7 delrailer

I have a mountain bike with a deore xt derailer (8 in rear, 3 in front). the rapid shifters (which are integrated with breaks) are shot. These are ''X7'' parts that are CIRCA 1994. What shifters can I use to replace them? I am not looking for anything fancy since I only cruise around on roads.

Shimano make an "EZ fire" which is an integrated shifter/brake lever combination and cheaper than buying seperate shifters and levers.

Assuming that the normal set has been done properly, consider replacing the derailer. Could be bent or broken parts.

How to replace cable in vintage shimano XT Deore SL M740 rear shifter...there is no feed hole as with most other shifters

on some of the old stuff there was a small plastic plug screw, Phillips head, near where the shift levers enter the pod. Once that is removed and the shifter is in smallest cog position you will be able to sight through that access hole and see daylight and can fish the cable through it. Hope that helps.

How do I replace rear shifter cable in shifter lever? Older Shimano Deore XT

ok this is a little hard to explain in words but the important thing is to make sure the chain is on the biggest cog, pull the cable through the deralier tight and fasten. don't pull it too tight however. you may need to fine tune using the h/l screws but if it was in tune before then it shouldn't need too much adjustment.

Deore front derailer cable stay hex nut access

Try unhooking the chain from the ring and pulling the derailleur out far eough to get at the bolt. Make sure your limit screws are adjusted for the travel yuou want and take up the slack. You can use the cable adjuster on the shifter to tighten it or loosen it as necessary. Make sure the adjuster has enough to go in the direction you need. I don't know which model Diore you are talking about so this is the best advice I can give you.

8speed lx shifter to xt shifter

It depends.. Shifter cables are standard and the same one would work for both LX and XT shifters. If the old cable is full of grime etc, it is a good idea to run new cables - it will give you a smooth easy shift.

I am sure if you check www.shimano.com you will find the manual for your model of shifter. Replacing cables is pretty easy.
