Does the motor continue to run? If so, the blade retaining bolt may not be tight enough. Most saws have a 'stop' pin which locks the drive during the blade tightening procedure. Make sure the blade is very sharp to reduce cutting effort. Hope this helps!

Can I use my metal chop saw to cut wood if I replace the blade with a wood saw blade?

Its conversely sometimes possible if you was asking about a wood saw with a steel saw blade but i cannot advice that in both application its not safe because not only of the difference of power but most it is the much higher RPM by diameter, just beware always on the max rpm you can read on your saw blades!!, it can give strange accidents with objects it can grab and swinging outbroken parts away.

Rigid tile saw. Can I use a wood blade?

Tile saws are designed to use a diamond blade, and to keep it wet. That's not something you want with a wood blade, nor with wood. The speed of a tile saw is much slower than a good wood saw. I wouldn't try it.

How do I fix a circular saw that runs, but the second it hits wood it stops the blade? The saw was used just a few hours. Looks almost new.

Is the blade loose causing it to slip on the axle when it gets pressure from the wood? You should be able to just tighten the big bolt in the middle of the blade.

Wsc255 circular saw makes a whining noise when I start it up when I put the blade onto the wood the blade stops.

Either the motor is shot or the bearings are shot. Or both. You can buy replacement parts on eReplacementparts.com. It might be worth your time to just buy a new saw. Look on eBay.

Saw stops when i start cutting 1/2 plywood.

If it actually binds and stops the motor...... it sounds like the motor is bad, the bearings are bad, or the blade is on backwards. If the motor keeps spinning, but the blade stops then the gears are bad or the blade bolt is not tight.

I bought a ls1016 coupond mitre saw this week. I was cutting cedar 2x6 's today and had a few kick backs. I am building my deck and do not feel safe using the saw after the kick backs. Why as this...

Sounds as if the blade is dull. Or perhaps bent. A dull or bent blade blade will 'grab' the wood, rather than cut it, resulting in binding, or kickbacks.

Solution; replace the blade with a fine-toothed, good quality blade. If the blade is new, then check that the blade is bolted tight on the arbor. If the blade is loose, it can result in kickbacks.

Also, check that all the bolts/fasteners/locking mechanisms on the saw are tight, and in good working order. Sometimes a tool new out-of-the-box will have loose screws/nuts/bolts that need to be tightened up.

Also, when cutting, use a smooth, slow, motion, being sure to give the saw the time it needs to make the cut.

How to change blades

unplug it. remove the bolt in the center of the blade. the blade will slip off then. a wrench for this should have come with your saw. if not, use any properly sized wrench. if needed, pull back the blade guard, put the blade on a old piece of wood, push down on the saw and use the wrench. the wood and your pressure will stop the blade from turning as you loosen the bolt

Blade does not turn

Disconnect the electric from the saw. Remove the throat blade cover. Bring the blade all the way up. Look for wood  caught between the blade and anything else. Finding none, remove blade. Try motor w/o blade. If it runs now,w/o the blade then the motor is likely ok . Reinstall blade. Now if it stil stalls, Replace motor.

Grinder question

Use a pencil and straight edge to mark the cutting line on the wood. Place the wood on the saw table and line the mark up with the saw. Place the mark on the right side of the blade to ensure proper cutting. Plug the saw in and put on your safety goggles. Support the wood on the work surface with your left hand, placing it far from the saw blade. Place your right hand on the handle, and push the trigger to start the saw. Move the saw blade down onto the wood. Put constant pressure on the handle to slowly move the blade through the wood. Release the trigger and raise the blade once the cut is complete. Make diagonal cuts in the same manner, by marking the wood and lining the mark up just to the right of the saw blade. Continue as you would for a straight cut. Remove the wood from the saw. Unplug the chop saw and dust the sawdust off. Remove the dust bag from the back and empty it. Vacuum any remaining dust off of the saw.
