Hello, Robert.

You need to run a nozzle check:

Select Start - Printers and Faxes - (Right-click) on the Epson 1290 printer. Click Properties and choose Nozzle Check.

You may need to run this several times.

Hope this helps.

Ensure cartridge fitted 100%, and you have taken off cartridge protectors, but the Printer should tell you why it's not printing !
sound simple to replace ink cartridge, but it can be tricky.

Hi fishbay,

Have you followed the proper way of installing ink cartridge for your printer. You might want to reinstall the cartridges by following the steps on the user manual. You can check page 37 down. You may download the manual here.

Hope this helps.

Hi I brought some Wilkinson ink cartridges that are compatible with epsom T0715 for my Epsom sx210 printer. Everything worked fine, now after approx 2 weeks I'm unable to print as it keeps saying...

In most cases the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.
Activate head cleaning before a test is taken . Sometimes it is possible that the head is not reacting to the need of the PC command or can be an issue with ink drying or
poor ink cartridge contacts.

Printing in just black and white

Epson,. has it rigged, that you must have ink in all the cartridges.............! Doesnt make a difference, if you are printing black and white ONLY.

You have to replace them.

Good Luck......

Red light on after changing ink

Perform the following procedure:
n Press the ink cartridge replacement button until the print head has moved to the change cartridge position
n Lift the lid that holds the cartridge (do NOT remove cartridge) and press down immediately. Then press the ink cartridge replacement button and allow the cartridge to charge the print head. Do NOT switch the printer off until the printer has finished charging.

Epson stylus photo 1290 printing black splodges

Joy:
Once more have the printer to perform the ink nozzles cleaning.
If you are using a ontinuos ink system, place it at the same level than that of the printer.
With the printer in the "replace carrtidge position", put it OFF and by hand, clean the place at which the cartridge rest.
Good luck and merry christmas

Repacing the color inks with black ink on the epson 1290

Well, since you say you'll be using new cartridges you shouldn't have any nozzle problems. About the worst case I can see would be the slight chance of getting too much ink on the paper resulting in wet paper and a stained platten roller. Seems like an interesting experiment over all.

Nozzle problems arise when reusing cartridges. The very thin metal film that is the nozzle assembly gets worn down as the print head moves over paper and after a number of pages printed the little holes that are the nozzles get larger making for fuzzy, wetter than it should be, streaky printing.

Enjoy,
Carl

Ink cartridges come off carriage

I'm not too familiar with the 12xx family of printers, but sounds to me like you have broken the print head track arm. Look carefully at the side that has come off the track. The traditional Epson print head design is to have the top track arm as part of the print head, and the bottom track arm as part of the print head carrier. The print head and carrier clip together thus providing a closed arm over the track rail. The key question is, have you merely unclipped the print head and carrier? If so all you need to do is position the upper and lower jaws over the track and push the print head and carrier parts together until they click. Alternatively, is a lower or upper jaw missing? In which case, one or other is broken - disaster I'm afraid.

Remember, I'm talking about generic Epson design of the 1290 vintage. I have the 1290 service manual, which is of the usual Epson rubbishy standard, but it's not the same as having actually dismantled one, which I haven't. However, if you look carefully at the side of the print head that's come off the track rail, you should be able to spot if anything is missing i.e. broken off.

Blue and sometimes red lines all across the prints using an epsom 1290. cleaned heads numerous times. nozzle check OK

Hey, sounds like the print heads, but replacing all the cartridges is best option first sometimes fixes the problem, if it dont you should look for epson 1290 cleaning cartridges on the internet they aint expensive, as head cleaning doesnt always unblock the print heads...

All the best
