Question about Philips Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD Recorder/VCR

VHS Tapes playing too fast / Machine switches of after 30 min

Hi there,
we have a Magnavox MWR20V6.

Please help us with the following problems:

- The machine switches off after ca. 30 - 45 min. and we can not switch it on again. It takes a few hours, sometimes more than 24 to get in running again.

- The VHS Tapes are playing much to fast. Its all in black&white, the actors look like they would have 8 heads etc. and the sound and voices are very high. (Like Smurfs-cartoons) :)

We really hope you can solve this problems for us.
Thank you
Eva & Mik

    HI,

they worked fine before, but not on this machine. I tried SP and LP tapes, but had the same problem with both types.

I actually bought this machine to record all my tapes onto DVD - and that's the only thing (apart from switching off on it's own) not working. :(

Hi,

These same tapes that you are trying to play, have they played properly in the past? Also, are the tapes in SP or LP format?

Power off when inserting vhs tape

I had this problem when copying an old family vhs tape. I had to unscrew the top of the magnavox to access the vhs tape. Then, I gently removed the tape and replaced the cover. After winding the tape back, I put it in the player and immediately pushed fast forward for about 3 seconds before hitting play followed by d.dubbing. I was able to make a copy of the tape and did not damage my original.

I recently copied some of my old VHS tapes onto DVD-R disc & they play fine on my Magnavox, but won't play on my other DVD player. What did I do wrong?

Check through, the settings of Magnavox and do the similar region
settings in your other DVD.

In short to say, recording format and the play back format does not
match. if you corect this through the MENU available, it should be OK.

May be your other DVD is old model!

I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9. I follow all directions in manual for dubbing VHS home movies to DVD but when I try to play the DVD back there's nothing on them. What am I doing wrong?

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.

When I try dubbing from VCR to DVD the machine will only record about half of the VHS to the DVD. I get the following message...Recording Error - this program is not allowed to be recorded. The cause...

The DVD AGG (automatic gain control) is somehow being fooled into thinking the non-commercial tape has macrovision (copy protection). Is this a relatively inexpensive machine?

Recording dvd's

As long as the tapes do not have a copy gaurd on them they should record to the dvd. Home moves, tv shows that were recorded or unprotected tapes can also be dubbed.
