i checked and the drawer is on the rails. I did take the tub out and looked inside. it appears the tip lid tips back and forward and it appears that is where the binding is taking place

  • ehuffmandmd Feb 10, 2010

could it have something to do with the lock button or lock button sensor?

Hi,aside from any obstruction is thet DishDrawer® square and level?. Is the DishDrawer® fastened securely to the cabinetry to prevent flex or movement? If not, the square geometry this appliance requires with affect drawer performance when opening and closing.
This is the most common cause for your problem. I'm not 100% sure, but it is something to take into consideration. Just a thought.

It is very likely the drawer has come off the side rails.

Best not to push hard as there is a lot of sensitive sensors etc along the rails.

You will have to open the front cover of the drawer and pull out the drawer and fix it properly.

For details on how to open front cover see page 7 in the installation manal. If you don't have one then go to

http://www.fisherpaykel.com/admin/pdfs/pdf_installations/526607O_DD_Install_USw.pdf

you wiill need a nose plier to unfasten the clamps.
Since it is the top drawer, make sure you have a chair or stool next to the unit to rest the drawer on. Be careful when pulling out as the hoses and wiring harness will also be pulled out.

Hope this helps. When you put it all back and the start button does not operate, then it is likely the drawer close sensor optics is not aligned. Maker sure the prism at the back is of the cabinet is not obstructed.

For a more exploded view of what is what in the cabinet refer to

Please post a comment to say how it all went.

Not sure how you are progressing with the solution to your top drawer problem. Has the problem been there from day 1 or appeared suddenly?

I will try to look at other possible reasons for the problem depending on your answer to above.

Fisher paykel dishwasher

If this is a brand new dishwasher then you may need to get a qualified technician to install it to make sure you do not compromise the warranty.
If a second hand then it is likely the drawer seal is damaged. This could be rubbing on the dishwasher housing and not allowing to be shut properly.

TOP DRAW VERY TIGHT TO OPEN AND CLOSE AND NO POWER TO TOP DRAW

The power filter board at the base of the dishwasher (under the bottom drawer) has a fault which shuts power to top drawer. The drawer is tight because lid seal actualtor motors are not operting due to lack of power, Try not to push too hard as the lid seal will be damaged.

Needs a technician to fix it unless you are good at handling dishwasher repairs. This is a very difficult one to handle for the non professional. The power board is about $100 to buy,

I am slightly unsure of the problem you are having with the bottom drawer.

Not sure which plastic catch you are referring to. There are no locks in the drawer. It slides on the rail and shuts against the face of the housing. On start (when ON is pressed) the lid seal decends from the top and locks the drawer so that water does not leak during operation.

Have you actually taken the drawer out from its rails? Are you please able to take a photo and attach to your comment.

The top drawer is binding.. it is extremely hard to close?

Either the drawer seal is damaged (top edge of housing from inside) or the drawer has come off the rails.

Remove the front cover (pull out 2 plastic pins on each side) and pull the drawer out. Inspect if it is still on rails and also check the seal. You should be able to push it back a little with your fingers. If hard or rigid, then seal mechanism needs fixing.

Make sure the unit is level. Remove drawer. On the inside of the cabnet there are the drawer runners on iether side. Behind these there are a pair catches. If one or both of these are latched back when they shouldn't be, ie. when the drawer is open, they will obstruct the drawer from closing fully and fail to hold it closed.

Hope this helps

The top drawer of my Fisher Paykel two drawer dishwasher will not close all the way. Something appears to be stopping it. How do I fix it?

To find out what might be blocking it, you can remove the drawer. There are two tabs one on each side of the drawer near the bottom front. Push those in and pull the drawer out. You can lift the drawer up and push the slides in to get them out of the way. Then you should be able to see into the cabinet and what if anything is stuck behind the drawer

We have a fisher Pakel dd603 2 drawer , the top draw wont close so we r trying to remove it to see what is blocking it can't figure out how to take top draw out

Hi!
There are two small clips down in the front of each drawer, one on each side. You depress these clips/tabs which are attached to the drawer slides, and then the drawer can be lifted away from the rails. You need to be very careful not to damage the hose/wire harness guide behind the drawer.
What may have happened is one of the "spring clips" on the rear of the rails has popped up when the drawer was open so the drawer will not have that "snap shut" feel you are used to when the drawer is almost all the way closed.

If you require more assistance, please ask.

Top drawer sticks

Hi and welcome. I think I can help here.
Read over my instructions first before pressing any buttons- Set the machine in diagnostics mode by first pressing the small lock button and holding it down, followed by the center button. (hold them both together, but start by pressing the lock button FIRST) for about 6 seconds. (you have to press the center button down right after you depress the lock button or else you will just set the machine in LOCK mode) You will hear a BEEP. Now push the far left button once. Now look at the display and press the center button to scroll thru the codes. You want to find "LD", I believe you will see it after three sucessive codes from the begining, but either way, scroll thru until you see LD, and then press the small lock button once. You should hear the lid motors retract now, and you will feel the drawer "come loose" again once the lid motors are back in the retracted position. Then simply turn the machine off. This clears the diagnostic mode. That should free the drawer up. Try this first and if you still have problems, let us know.

Happy New Year from the FixYa crew!

Sounds like the lid is not opening all the way. Rubber may be coming off lid seal during opening and closing. Check you lid actuators replace both right and left if needed.
