What network cable does a belkin N600 use RJ11or RJ12

Look again. Those "RJ11/RJ12" are not 2-pair/3-pair small Telco jacks but rather the 4-pair lager size found in Telco data com circuits (ancient DS0/T1 technology) and commonly now for Ethernet often referred as Local Area Network, LAN, data communications at 10 up to 1000 Mbps.
An RJ45 is larger and can not fit into an RJ11/RJ12 jack. The smaller RJ11/RJ11 will insert and make contact with the inner pins but if the line is active the Belkin device now has/will have a blown port. Don't!

Your Belkin N600 expects one Ethernet cable from a cable or DSL modem into the WAN or Internet port on the Belkin N600 for link through your carrier to Internet.

A four port gang of Ethernet RJ45 plugs is also present and is where your in-house PCs and Ethernet peripherals plug in. On the OEM website usually there is a colored quick setup guide to help you.

Some OEMs designate a yellow Ethernet wire from cable/DSL/satellite modem to WAN port and blue for internal LAN devices to try to reinforce outside verses after the NAT firewall inside the router for your internal LAN. The signal doesn't care about color it's for you.

The internally generated WiFi or WLAN (wireless LAN) is part of the LAN side but allows WiFi radio connection to client devices.

The 4-pair Ethernet cables have 8 conductors wIth the wire end of the plug to you and the contacts held upwards you will note the four pairs and their colors blue, orange, green and brown each with one conductor of the pair white with the color and then the color solid or more correctly the color with white stripe. Signals are on pins (left to right) 1&2, 3&6. On standard cable both ends are the same - a straight through, for hub to client. A cross-over cable takes 1&2 to 3 &6 on the opposite end and vice versa. This was for client to client or hub to hub connections before auto-sensing ports showed up to make the signals swap if needed automatically found in most equipment today. Some cables from OEMs have the correct physical size and pinouts, but only use the 2 signaling pairs. It is best to use these short distances and preferably away from rf noise like in modem to WAN port connections.

The twists per inch in the cable and interweave determines frequency response which defines CAT 3, CAT5, CAT5e and CAT6 level of Ethernet cables. CAT5 is fine else CAT5e/CAT6. CAT3 is generally considered now for telco use only, but can be pressed into into service short haul. (Won't get the 328 ft rated reliably above 10baseT speeds).

You may run across Ethernet with PoE this means on unused pairs a device like a video camera is fed power as well as data connectivity over its Ethernet connection. Follow directions to put power to the correct location as needed and look for any recommended grounding requirements, especially with antennas.

Prices vary widely depending upon bubble packaging and the store overhead generally $6-$12 for about 6 ft or 2 m.

If you want to make your own then RTFM and understand millage may vary until you get the right tools and parts and practice while adhering to standards. I find it more cost effective to use pre-made & tested cables except if failure at an end then I repair followed by testing to re-qualify the cable to not degrade its use.

OBTW - Generally the USB was for single computer use at lower speeds of earlier service speeds below 3-6 Mbps - usually don't.

Rear defroster wire is disconnected. Any ideas how to fix it? Was told to get a flat tab and wire glue. Will this work?

I once tried that with a very small soldering iron after noticing there was a tiny blob of solder on the window conductor. It did not really work well as the heat burned the window conductor somewhat.

So now you can get electrically conductive "wire glue". Here it is in Oz where I am

http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=NM2831

and Amazon sells it. This stuff also looks good

D531 powers off when the screen is moved. The screen feels a little loose, so, I suspect a poor connection. Is this a common problem?

Not in any service bulletins I have seen, nor on the internet.

What is common is that the laptop may have been dropped, or an object left inside when the laptop was being closed, or eventually the hinges just wear out.

A loose, or defective hinge will put a strain on connections from the laptop, to the Display Assembly.
Damage, or a loose connection, can occur with the Video Cable.

(Video Cable from motherboard to Display Assembly, and cable to Inverter)

Dell Support > Latitude D531 Notebook PC > Service Manual,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd531/en/sm/index.htm

Left-click on Display in the list.
Scroll down to the third photo.
Under - 8. Lift the display out of the cover

No.3 - Display cable pull tab - shows the video cable (Display Cable) connection to the motherboard.

See if this connection is tight.

The Display Cable is an FFC.
Flat Flex Cable.
It has NO connector on the end. It is a flat cable composed of individual wires, laid flat next to each other.
Each wire is insulated from the other wires.

The end of the FFC has bare contact pins for each wire.

The connector on the motherboard is a ZIF connector.
Zero Insertion Force.

The FFC is slid into the ZIF connector, in the PROPER alignment, so that the contact pins in the cable, line up with the contacts in the connector.
(OBSERVE which direction the FFC was installed before removing it. Some are installed twisted over one time. It MUST go back the same direction it was originally)

The ZIF connector has a blue Lock Tab.
This lock tab is brought straight up at a 90 degree angle, to unlock the connector, and free the Flat Flex Cable.

In the photo I pointed out above, the blue Lock Tab is in a vertical position. The position for removing the Flat Flex Cable.

Not a loose connection at the motherboard?
Check for obvious signs of damage to the sheath of the Display Cable.
The sheath could have been stretched, which in turn can stretch the wires, and possibly break them, or cause an intermittent connection.

No obvious signs of damage?
Next check the connection on the back of the LCD screen.
Not loose?

Remove the Display Cable.
Use a multimeter, and check each wire for continuity. (Ohms check)
Have a helper gently wiggle the cable, and see if there is an intermittent reading on the multimeter.
(Break in wire/s)

Check connections for tightness to the Inverter.

Report your findings back in a Comment.

joecoolvette

I'm replacing the existing 3 wire cord with a 4 wire cord on a Maytag LDE312. I assume the green wire goes to the external connection on the chassis, AND ALSO the jumper (aluminum tab) must be removed from...

This is correct. When using a three wire cord, you leave the tab in place and this ties the neutral and ground together.
With a four wire cord arrangement, you remove the tie tab. The white (neutral) wire goes to the middle terminal, and the green goes to the chassis ground. The hot wires will always be the outside leads and connect to the outside terminals.

3-pair version of (red/green, black/yellow, white/blue). But the first two pairs are not twisted
So it becomes green/red, yellow/black, & white-black/blue. G1/ R2 /3Y /4B /5*Blk/6Blue (this is what you physically see on the other RJ11 connections since this is a data connection and not a phone connection it should be a straight-through instead of cross-over connection.
These RJ 11 PINOUT assignments may be incorrect because they apply to a color camera instead of B/W

1 SPEAKER (+)
2 VIDEO_OUT
3 GND
4 SPEAKER (-)
5 AUDIO_OUT/ALARM_OUT
6 12V DC

Clip up, contacts down

RJ11-e starts off like a RJ45 Stranded Patch Cable.
The color code used in stranded patch cables is different from solid-conductor cables. For NorTel Digital Patch Cable (DPC), the coding is; Pair 1: Green & RedPair 2: Yellow & BlackPair 3: Blue & *Orange White\Black
*In Pair 3 the color coding is Blue & Black instead of Blue & Orange and the pair is twisted so that the Blue wire is the 6th pin instead of the 5th pin.

Brother 4070 CDW Drum Unit Error

The green tabs that you have to slide are under the color cartridges, so remove the three color cartridges and you will see three green tabs, to slide the tab across the wire you have to first open the translucent plastic wire cover, then slide the green tab across the wires and return it to it's original position, close the wire covers, replace the color cartridges, and reassemble the printer. All the Best
