When the disk does not spin, then either one of the tiny super-thin cables has been busted, or is not fully/properly plugged in to it's socket, or the motor that spins the disk is fried.
IF you have taken it apart to work on it, then goo back in and carefully make sure all the cables plug in properly. Then try it again.
If that does not help, or if you have never opened the case, go buy a new PS2 ($99).

I can't get into the map on my pioneer avic d3

The AVIC D3 is not pioneers best. The navigation side of the unit is wearing out. The slider slot in the dvd and other moving parts are wearing down fractionally and that is all it takes for the unit to no longer read the high density map data discs. The map disc is a dual layer 8.5gb disc and it is just about max out. (The disc must be in the unit for the navigation to work.) This is a lot of information and the unit must be able to read every bit of data on the disc or it will error out. All it takes is the fractional wear to mess up the tracking of the laser over the disc and cause problems reading the data on the disc. When the unit spins and spins, it is working hard to read something on the disc and will eventually error out if it can't. Also a fingerprint or tiny spot on the disc will prevent the unit from reading the disc. (Clean with a drop of water and soft cotton cloth even if it looks clean.) The data is information or instructions telling the unit what to do, and if it misses any information it will go crazy and error out. This is very different from music or video/movies that just play and if a spot is on the disc it will just be a fuzzy picture or static from that spot. If you have a disc your system likes, take care of it. I say likes because every disc has fractional differences in data location on the disc. (This is tolerance) That fractional difference could make or break the ability of your unit to read the map disc. So one possible fix is trying different disc to see if your unit will like one of them. Still eventually this also will die. These units are beyond their life cycle and the dvd drive is operating on borrowed time. I hope this helps.

Cleaning the lens

Chances are the cleaning process is done when you see that as the disc looks for TOC already by that time and spins the disc to focus and get data. Since the disc is for cleaning there is no data on it and thus the display. I don't use these things myself as I use the method of most Technicians in cleaning manually.

Ps3 not spinning disc, replaced spindle motor, did not fix. Please help

Hi there, this is because the actual laser needs replacing, not the disc spinner motor. With the PS3 the laser reads the disc data type, whether it be a DVD, game , audio cd or blu ray movie. It then spins the disc up to the required read speed. When the laser is faulty is cannot read the disc type so will not spin at all.

Hope this helps

I have put in a dvd into the slot, it will not play, the message saying self check keeps displaying

Hi

Assuming that the machine accepts the disc in and begins to spin the disc, you will hear a spinning sound, and goes no further than this point, it would suggest the optical pick up is unable to read any data on the disc or the spindle motor is unable to spin the disc to its correct velocity, it is more than likely the laser has failed, either way the machine needs to be serviced.

My unit won't play any games at all now. It won't even spin now. Before it kept saying "Please insert PS2 Formatted Disc". Now all it keeps saying "Disc Read Error" or "There is no data". Do you have...

Are you sure the disc does not spin? If it spins, your lens is either weak, dirty or dead. You can clean the lens by getting a q-tip with isopropyl-alchohol (rubbing alchohol) and rubbing the eye of the lens. This might clean it. If there is no improvement, you might have to replace the lens. This is also possible on your own. Get a replacement lens from the 'bay or electronic shop and watch some tutorials on YouTube (there are plenty). It is not that hard.
Cheers!
P.S. Attempt this only if you think the disc spins. If not, it is a different approach where you have to replace the hub and motor.
