We have no latch perse. I did include my model number but here it is again DLX Series

    SHX 36L0 5UC

I will be livid if this can't be fixed as it should last much longer than 4.5 years. Very disappointing product and I will make sure every message board knows that and customer review so no one buys.

Two other things. Where are the hinges and springs. We have the type with the buttons inside. THe door closes just do not "latch" and we do not see any latches.

By the way no where to reject solution - only accept or continue or move to new expert. Bad user experience.

The door latch will likely have to be replaced. You can get one and pics and part number at partselect.com

the next best place would be repairclinic.com they are the second best place.
If you decide to want to test the switch, you can use an ohmmeter and place the meter in the ohm setting, place one probe on each side of the wiring on the switch, press the button, You should have a reading with the button in and nothing when it is out.

Hi there,

Well first of all you can check the Latch - the latch on many dishwashers is adjustable. If your door is easy to close but difficult to latch, adjust the latch to let the door close more easily. If you can't see any way to adjust the latch, yours may be fixed in a certain position. Check for other reasons for the latching problem. If the latch has worn out in a way that makes it impossible for you to close the door properly, you probably need to replace the latch. then you can check the Springs - Your dishwasher has two springs that counterbalance the weight of the door. If either or both of these are broken, the door feels quite heavy and you need to replace both springs. After spring you can check Hinges - The hinges are important to the door closing properly. If they're bent or deformed, you probably need to replace them. Once bent, only rarely can they be straightened well enough. Please post the model number of your dishwasher if further you have the same problem...........

Good Luck!!

Thanks

The start light is flashing on my GE dishwasher?

What's the model number? How old is this dishwasher? The new GE dishwashers (less than 3 years old) have a weakness in the door switch/latch assembly, and that would cause the light to flash - it wants you to press Start and close the door, but it's not recognizing that the door is closed.

The cord you refer to is part of the door spring assembly, you need to take off the bottom panel and repair or replace the door spring or cable.

Leaking at the bottom of a GE dishwasher

If it's under a year old, it's under warranty, just call 1-800-GECARES and they'll send someone out to replace the door gasket. If it is over a year old, you need to replace the door gasket. There are small black lines that extend beneath the door into the body of the dishwasher that will be replaced when you install the new gasket. This will seal the door so that you no longer have anymore leaks.

Dishwasher problem

Hello ramsey06,
Welcome,
You said , dishwasher starts everything is going OK. the water is going but then it stops and does not finish.

First: this is what Whirlpool says!!

And after this Is what the repair manual says when I looked it up for you!

Dishwasher is not operating properly
1.Dishwasher does not run or stops during a cycle
Is the Start/Resume indicator flashing? Opening the door or
interrupting the power stopped the cycle. Close the door and
press START/RESUME.
2.Does the Start/Resume indicator flash 3 times when you
press START/RESUME? The dishwasher is waiting for you to
open the door after the last cycle. Open and close the door,
then press START/RESUME.
3.Is the door closed tightly and latched?
(NOTE: On models with a dual-digit display, the control
displays “- -” during a cycle if it believes the door is not
latched.)
4.Is the right cycle selected? Refer to the “Cycle Selection
Charts.”
5.Is there power to the dishwasher? Has a household fuse
blown, or has a circuit breaker tripped?
6.Has the motor stopped due to an overload? The motor
automatically resets itself within a few minutes. If it does not
restart, call for service.
7.Is the water shutoff valve (if installed) turned on?
It is normal for certain cycles to repeatedly pause for several
seconds during the main wash.
___________________________________________________________

BUT, the repair manual says this

Faulty Pump and Motor Assembly Some models that will not wash or drain often have a faulty Pump and Motor Assembly. If the motor is receiving power from the timer and it is not operating that is the case.
Temporary Work-around:
With the power turned off to the unit, sometimes it is possible to manually rotate the cooling fan on the motor assembly. In certain situations where the dishwasher has set idle for a period of time, this may free the bearings enough that the unit will begin to operate. Where this works as a short term solution in some cases, it is often a sign of things to come. The frequency of the motor seizing will increase until it will simply no longer work.

I think this is a hands job that needs service and hands on attention!
I hope it's not the motor or pump!

How old is the machine?
If they tell you it is an expensive motor then you need to know this!!!!

Here is an article I just read!

If the dishwasher is old it will not pay you to repair the

Here is an interesting report I just read!!!!!!!!!!

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old dishwasher

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your dishwasher,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your dishwasher is under warranty or less than four years old ,
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that dishwashers under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your dishwasher is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new dishwasher.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive dishwasher
eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of dishwashers you replace are likely to end up in a landfill.

Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help!

Dishwasher soap dispenser won't open during cycle

I had the same problem with my GE Adora. The dishes were getting cloudy and the soap dispenser would not open. Turns out the hard water deposits were causing the soap dispenser to stick shut. I purchased and used Dishwasher Magic which is a dishwasher cleaner designed to remove limescale, rust and buildup. I used as directed and now my dishes are sparkling and the soap dispenser pops right open.

Frigidaire Dishwasher FDB1050REC1 - Washing Indicator Light Blinking

Here is what happened, you pulled the door open without pressing cancel and allowing it to pump the water out, hence the "flooding in the bottom". This is just one reason why it maybe blinking, there is a water sensor in the bottom. If your dishwasher is hooked up properly to any decent garbage disposal, run the disposal for about 30 seconds to a minute. This should pump the water out, more like activate a light siphoning affect. It should work as normal. If you are not having luck with that, detach the DW drain get it low and let it siphon.
