Worn out baseboard electric heaters

How can you tell if a electric baseboard heater 220volt is bad. mine have hot spots in the center and cold on the remaining ends.they are hot enough to burn you or melt plastic.i was told that they were supposed to heat evenly and not burn you.i need written proof that they are bad so my landlord will replace them.

The only safe way is to read the voltage with a AC voltmeter. Turning off the power to that heater connecting the test leads and turning the power back on. There is only two leads going to the heater and you should always dissconect the power befor connecting the test keads. Your meter shoud be set to read the highest of the two voltages.110 Volts or 220 Volts. You might get lucky and find a name plate on the unit with the voltage shown.

Electric Hydronic Baseboard Heater, 240 Volt: WHEN I TURNED ON MY ELECTRIC BASEBOARD HEATER THER...

My PLF504 detonated this morning (11-25-2010). It worked fine for two years then BANG. Room was lit by flame coming from center (left to right) of unit. I wrote Marley asking them to honor the 10 year heater element warranty. Also, no burnt wires at thermostat connection, no dust bunnies on the fins. Source of fire was the fluid filled encapsulated heater core. Thank God, circuit breaker tripped and wall was tiled.

Electric baseboard heater worked last week. but when I

The wall thermostat will click even if there is no power. You will need an electric metere to trace down the problem. May be a bad breaker, bad limit switch or the element could have went bad. You need to follow the electric and see what is interupting the flow.

Honeywell HZ517 Electric Baseboard Heater not powering up

first.... did they work in the past?? if so... you may have a defective thermastat. if not, usually it is a incorrect wiring problem. wiring in two baseboard heaters to one thermastat can be tricky if you do not know what you are doing. baseboard heaters by design seldom go bad.... if wired correctly the problem could be a defective thermastat or safety limit switch.

Fahrenheat electric baseboard heaters are not safe for children

A few companies sell child-proof covers that prevent little fingers and small objects from getting into the radiators. Try searching Child-safe baseboard heater covers in a google search or PexSupply.com.... we use them in daycare centers.

How far off the floor do i install hot water baseboard heaters

When you install the baseboard heater make sure the bottom part which is the all thing must sit over the floor and touch the tiles or carpet and use 2 or 3 wood screw against the wall. That is it and do not put any kind of paper or cotton or material things above the cover. Beside that you are ok and it is not like an electric wall heater.

Electric Hydronic Baseboard Heater Under Electrical Recepticle

Hello,
I believe you interpretation of the code is a bit skewed in that the fundamental concern is to not route power cords over a heat source which might cause the insulation on that wire to exceed its rated operating temp and fail. The heaters themselves have shrowds over them so there are no exposed surfaces hot enough to melt wire insulation and when you think about it ..2000 watts disipated over a long baseboard section is not that hot. If I were you, I would go ahead and install them and not worry about the warning.. The warning also removes any liability from the heater manufacturer in the event something happens.. Common sense would dictate that you wouldn't intentionally drape power cords all over the heaters... Just use common sense and not worry about it..
Regards,
Rick
