Question about Nikon D40x Digital Camera

1 Answer

The image in the viewfinder is out of focus. The autofocus feature goes back and fourth and when it stops it is usually out of focus. During this process it makes a squeaky sound. I have reset the camera, reset the lens (AF S Nikkor), and tried the camera in all of its shooting modes.

Either the lens itself is faulty or it is dirty and needs to be disassembled and blown out with a can of Airduster.

Nikon d5100 Blurry photos When I take photos of a party, at night, my photos are very blurry. How can I fix..

Use autofocus if you have a AF lens on it.

Usually you get a kit 18-55 AF lens that has a A/M switch on the side. The switch should be facing the A side so it's set on autofocus. Then you have 9 points on your viewfinder, those are the autofocus points. It should usually be set to center, because you usually want the object in center of your photo to not be blurry.
Remember to press the shutter button halfway and give some time for the autofocus to focus. Then you can press it all the way, you should have your photos nice and clear.

If you happen to have a manual focus lens, you should be watching through the viewfinder and turning the focus ring on the lens and determine if your object is in focus. It's hard at night, but get some practice at home when you have some more light so you get more familiar with the focus.

There's a diopter control just to the right of the viewfinder. Adjust it while looking through the viewfinder until the display is sharp.

First make sure that the viewfinder glass is clean. If that is not the problem, it may be that the diopter adjustment has been accidentally changed. On the right side of the viewfinder screen is a very small knob. This adjusts the focus of the viewfinder to your vision. Aim your camera at a stationary object and let the camera auto focus. Look throught the viewfinder and turn this knob one click at a time until the image is clearest to you. Hope this helps.

Next to the viewfinder ther is a diopter adjustment so you can change the focus in the viewfinder. this is so if you need glasses the camera can be set for you. Start by focusing the camera on something, then slide to turn the diopter adjustment until it looks sharp and try not to bump it.

Image in viewfinder slightly unfocused, photo clear.

Either your viewfinder needs to be cleaned or your camera needs to be cleaned. Most of the time it is the mirror in the camera that is causing this issue and cleaning it will make everything better.

Canon Rbl XT out of focus in viewfndr when shutter half way down

Hello,
It's possible that the reason the "pictures turn out fairly good" is that your f-stop is set high enough that even though the image isn't properly focused, you have enough depth-of-field to bring your subject into "near focus". Does your lens try to focus back and forth when you half-press the shutter? If not, double check that the lens is in autofocus and not manual focus. You can also try cleaning the contacts between the lens and camera. Take the lens off, and then one-at-a-time clean the contacts on both the lens and the camera, using a clean pencil eraser. Gently rub the contacts. Be sure to hold the item upside down so that the eraser debris falls on to the table, not into the camera body or lens!

If none of this helps the autofocus may have become damaged and you need to have the lens and camera looked at by Canon Repair.

Autofocus jumps around and often will not settle on the correct setting

what i do is usually put it onto manual focus then back to auto focus, what it may be is that you are using the wrong lens for your subject :/

Out of focus

If there is a diopter adjustment, for the viewfinder (to take into account a person wearing glasses) then that may have been changed and images just appear out of focus(in the viewfinder) when in reality, they may not be, if the camera is in autofocus mode.
Check these settings. Since I do not know what kind of camera this is I cannot be sure whether this diagnosis is valid.
What do the images look like when you download them?

D50 After autofocusing stops it still isn't quite in focus.

Your diopter may not be adjusted ( adjustment for sharpness of image in viewfinder on the side of the eye-piece ) so set that first and then try again. If this is correct then your camera is focusing accurately ( on the sensor ) but only the image in viewfinder looks unsharp.

Is my canon eos 400d broken?

This is a Digital SLR With SLR cameras you can only use the viewfinder because the image comesi nto the lens and up to the viewfinder via a mirror. When to take a pic the mirror flips up[usually with a crash] and the image goes to the CCD- afterwards you will get an image briefly in the LCD.
