Ribbon doesn't advance on Silent Smith-Corona Typewriter

I have an old Silent Smith-Corona typewriter. The ribbon spools do not advance as I type so the ribbon just stays in one place. Thanks.

SOURCE: return arm on smith-corona silent typewriter does not advance

The linespace selector lever is probably at zero 0
try moving it to 1 1 1/2 or 2. There is also a detent lever that releases the ratchet of the roller. You should feel a bumping when you move the roller wheel.

sounds like the ribbon is all the way to the end of the spool. Switch the spools around

This ribbon is no longer made, you may find one on ebay but it will be very old. Your best bet is to wrap a new ribbon onto your spools.

I have a new black and red ribbon for my Smith Corona Silent Super typewriter. I took the old one out a long time ago. I know the red half goes on the bottom and the black on top but I am not sure which...

Most ribbons wind to the outside of the spools. Take the ribbon off, type and watch the take up spindels to see whitch way it moves and install the ribbon that way.

Silver sterling manual smith corona ribbon keeps falling off

you may have place the ribbon spools so they are unwinding instead of winding up the ribbon. The left spool turns counterclockwise and the right spool turns clockwise. Make sure the ribbon winds onto the spools when turned in those directions.

Smith Corona Classic 12 ribbon won't stay in place

Okay...i had the same problem when I replaced the original ribbon that came with my Classic 12. I think it was the ribbon that came with the typewriter.
Anyway, on the ribbon carrier, there are two sets of metal prongs on top of one another. If you get the ribbon behind both of them, it will pop up and not go back down or won't come up at all.
You have to get the ribbon between the two sets of prongs. There's isn't much room and you have to kind of pull the bottom of the ribbon taught and slide it down from the top.
It isn't easy the first time, but after you get it, you won't forget.

As for your ribbon not feeding...take the spools out and make sure the pegs that go into the holes in the spools are rotating when you type. This is what moves the spools. Then make sure you're getting the pegs in the hols when you put the spools back in.
Also, make sure the ribbon isn't twisted anywhere and that it's threaded correctly. Both spools should look identical with the ribbon coming out of the top toward the carrier.

To ensure you have the correct ribbon, got to the Office Depot online store and do a search for Smith Corona Classic 12 and you will get a pretty generic, double-black ribbon that fits and works perfectly...and is so soaked in ink you can reuse each side three times. I don't recall the brand name, but the box is grey with red lettering.

Corona 100 typing ribbon

Either a jammed ribbon or feed gears. Try another ribbon or get it serviced.
