First, when the operating system was installed, the product key was installed.

To activate windows, you click activate and it should not ask for the key.

If it is only asking because to are trying to transfer files, then don't transfer them, copy then to a disk or a memory drive, flash drive and transfer them.

If the pc is activated, --you bought it new, and activated it, just because
you are trying to transfer ,it should not ask, something is wrong,
maybe the old computer has a hacked version of windows and the new windows will see this.

Your welcome, the activation for windows, is either on the book that has the windows disk, or , it is on the sticker on the machine.

Lets say you don't have either, there is only one way to find your
#, there is no place in windows to see it.

I will give you a website that is called Magic jelly bean, on the site you will see a program called Keyfinder, you download it, and run it
and it will show you the key that was installed on your machine.

You can try what you said, but listen, are you talking about files or programs, There is no reason why you can't view files, but there is a reason you can't run programs.

Programs must be installed, you can't transfer programs, you must install them from the installer, or a disk. Some programs have a installer saved in there program folder under you (C) drive under programs, but most don't.

If you have any more questions, just post back and we can try and get you set.
