Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

The heater on my 52 plate Citroen Berlingo van ommits a nasty smell/fumes when it warms up after 2 to 3 miles. The smell is strong at first then seems to ease off a bit.The heater never really gets hot even on a long run. There doesnt appear to be any loss of water or leaks inside the vehicle. Any ideas please?

Kevin, you might find that your inlet manifold is seeping oil/diesel, this is common on berlingo`s although you dont mention if it is a diesel, if so then its drips on the exhaust for the first part of your journey and then maybe when you go up or down steep hills.I changed the inlet manifold gaskets but to no avial and every diesel of the same age as yours seems to have the same problem,i find a bit of engine degreaser and a wash off with hose will settle the problem for a while, i hope this is of some use to you , Robert .

It can be oil rings. It can be valve seals or it can be you fuel mixture. Sounds like worn rings.

Fumes escaping from ac vents inside vehicle while driving and leaves a film residue on inside of windshield whenever the heat or defrost are used.

Hello dedunwoodie.
Your heater core is beginning to leak coolant.
As the fan blows through it it is picking up the liquid and depositing it on your windshield.
It will need to be replaced to solve your problem.
