Question about Seagate FreeAgent Go 250 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

1 Answer

The USB plug on the SeaGate Hard Drive 250GB 7200RPM is broken.

I traveled with the hard drive in my luggage and It must have pushed in the USB plug or broke it off but now I have an empty hole in the case. When I shake the hard drive I can hear the sound of metal inside. I came to the decision of using the hard drive internal on my desktop. My motherboard supports IDE, so does anyone know what kind of hard drive there is inside? Or maybe even a fix for the case? any help would be great.

Most companies make external HD's as a means to use up their stocks of the obsoleting ATA (IDE) HD's. My bet is that unless they joyously announce (usually on the box) that it has a "SATA" drive inside, then they must have an IDE (which they don't usually announce so readilly).

Unless it voids your warranty I suggest you just pop open the drive and look.

Turn the computer off.
Turn the computer on, and press <DEL> to enter BIOS SETUP.
Ensure that the hard-drive is "enabled", and set to 'AHCI'.
Save the BIOS settings.
Reboot, and install Windows.

Seagate 500GB FREEAGENT DESKTOP 7200RPM EXTERNAL USB 20 HARD DRIVE 16MB it just stoped working in the middle of the movie, complete blackout, tryed conect to another PC nothing came up, what it could be...

Try this:

1. Turn off the power supply to the hard drive.
2. Turn off your PC/laptop.
3. Connect the hard drive to the PC/laptop.
4. Turn on both devices.

It worked with mine.

You could also try installing Seagate Manager which can check for errors on the drive.

REQUIRE WINDOWS 7 DRIVER FOR IOMEGA SILVER SERIES 250GB EXTERNAL HARD DISC DRIVE. THANK YOU

The external hard-drive is "plug-and-play", and Windows XP/Vista/7 all support "plug-and-play".
Thus, it should automatically be detected by Windows.

So, what's your "real" problem? Symptoms? Error-messages? What happens? What does not happen?

I cant erase the files in my hard disk, if i erased it, it's keep on comimhg back..what will i do?

INFO:
Files are never really erased from a hard drive.
At various stages files are always recoverable.

RECOMENDATION:
To truly erase your hard drive take it out and completely destroy it down to many small parts.

Reformat the hard drive.

Hope this tip helps.

It sounds like your hard drive is messed up. Don't worry you can have the data retrieved from your hard drive by using this online company that I highly recommend:

You can try to take it out from the enclosure and plug the hard drive directly to your motherboard for you to retrieve the date. Or just buy a different drive enclosure.

External Seagate Hard Drive making clicking noise

Did you plug it into a different USB port?

The click noise (at least from the usb hdds that i have had) is due from it being underpowered. So if you plugge it into a different USB, move it back to the other.
