SOURCE: only half the image apears other half is black

well your sub-mirror is broken inside of the camera, i had the same problem, it just happens by itself after extended use of the camera, and it is not a means for recall by canon so you have to deal with it yourself.
this website can fix it for $130 and they will replace it with a metal piece so it doesn't happen again(original piece is weak plastic)

SOURCE: turn on camera but the lcd sceen is black

I just found an answer!! It appears that the camera has a CCD problem that a wire connected to CCD (camera sensor) comes off. It's manufacture defect and has affected more than 20 Canon models. Canon repairs this problem for free regardless of it's warranty status. Check out the link.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

When taking pictures outside the view screen after picture taken appears as a bright burst of white light. Inside picture appear fine. Any ideas?

let me see if i understand. if you llok at the screen it looks ok, but after you take the picture it will record only a white bright image.....

in some cases you can easily fix this by goining into your camera option and restoring default settings. it is the exposure setting .

if you camera still giving you just black white images the light sensor in the machine ahs gone bad, it needs to be replace.

I dropped my camera in hot tub

I beleive your shutter blade is stuck and thats why your lcd screen stays black even if you take pictures. It cannot get to the actual part that allows you to take images. That is something you will have to take to a repair person to fix because they would have to take the full camera apart to fix the shutter blades. Now for the battery, it might be an easy fix by getting another battery and if not you have damaged the part of the electronics inside that allows the charger to charge properly. Good luck and I hope this helps some.
