If the dryer seems to be getting hot and otherwise working (just not spinning), try this test -

Turn off.
With the door open, try rotating the drum by hand.
If it spins easily, and you cannot hear any connection to the drive motor, then it is very likely just the drive belt that needs replacing.
Order a spare for your specific model, and a reasonably competent DIY'er should be able to fit it.

If you are unlucky, and the motor is spinning - just not working, then replace the brushes on the motor as a first atempt at a fix. These are available online, but you will need to quote model numbers.
Again, a competent DIY fix.

If the motor is OK (after testing), then the control board may have a defective (burnt) component that needs replacement - usually by swapping the board with a good one. This repair is for experienced technicians or skilled trades.
Thank you for using Fixya.

When pushing the start button dryer hums but does not spin. when u release start button dryer shuts off

Sounds like a bad motor. Check to make sure the drum isn't stuck, if you can spin the drum put some tape on the door switch and press the start button while you spin the drum. If the drum continues to rotate, you have a bad motor.

Dryer turns on but does not start when i push the start button. The timer comes on all the buttons light up, light is on inside dryer, but does not start just makes a sound when i hit the start button

if it's a humming sound the motor is bad or something is jammed keeping the motor from spinning.open the dryer door and move the drum by hand if the drum can't be moved the belt could be jammed on something or there's something stuck in the blower wheel.the blower wheel is behind the duct that the lint filter slides into.if you can move the drum then you most likely have a bad motor, try spinning the drum and push the door switch in and have someone else push the push to start button and see if the dryer will start,if the motor has a flat spot it could start like this.let me know what you find

Hi my dryer buttons seem all good but as soon as i start the spin it spins for a second then stops then it beeps repeatedly

Whats brand dryer is it? Older style or newer style. Is it the regular machanical timer style dryer or the new computer led light style dryer? If it the regular machanical timer style type, then you saying when you push the start button it starts but once you let go of the "push to start" button it stops. Is this right? In that case is could be a bad motor. The centrifigal switch in the motor is probably bad and isnt holding to the "run winding" in the motor internally.

Dryer drum wont start spinning after pushing the start button

the problem is with the start winding on your dryer motor.it is centrifical switch,so if a lint build up gets in that motor switch area it stays on the run winding.pop the top .remove the frount.pull drum.vacume motor out if then starts on own great.other wise you need new motor.parts about 100$God bless, tom
