I'm having a hard time getting my Flip HD to charge. It is brand new and this is the first time I've had to charge it. Sometimes the red light is on and steady and other times the red light is flashing. ...

I had this charging problem with 2 new Flip Ultra HD cameras...red light flashing..nothing on the screen after plugging in the USB port.

I removed the battery..plugged camera into USB port..pc recognized the camera... installed flipshare software..updated software...plugged battery back in..all good.

Why on earth the book doesn't mention these steps is beyond me.

Have you considered NOT connecting the camera to the computer?

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.

I dropped my Flip video camera on the floor (about 2.5 feet) and now it will not turn on. I put in new batteries. I have downloaded videos. But it will not turn on.

Same here. Wouldn't turn on but when I plugged it into PC for download it did light up saying, "connected." At first the computer did not recognize the device and asked me to re-plug it in. I pulled it out and lo and behold it turned on when I tried the power button. I then plugged it back into the PC and it is currently off loading my videos.

Hello. We have a Flip HD video camera. After

I have this exact same problem on my Flip all the time. The only solution I've found is that you have to unlock it, open up the battery pack on the front, take it out and put it back in. Then it turns on. I've had this problem with two different Flip HDs, so I think there's a bug in the camera -- it only happens after I've plugged it into the adapter on the computer and then taking it off.

Hi there kathleen,

If you plugin other usb device, does the computer recognizes it? With your xp computer, plugin your Flip and turn it on. Try to right click your windows start button and choose Explore. Then from the left panel, look for the drive letter associated with your Flip. If you're lucky, upon clicking on that drive, it will show its contents to the right.

If the above did not work, then we may need to format your Flip and try to recover the video using a recovery software later.

Cannot get the flip camera to play videos or recognize the Flip shareware on my laptop. Working on Windows XP

You may just have a simple problem with the device 'Drive Letter' allocation.

When you plug in the Flip into your USB your computer will assign the device a drive letter, if this letter is used already say for a network or mapped drive or other USB connection the Flip will not be recognized.

To check and see if that's the problem, plug in the Flip and go to your desktop
(right click) on My Computer / Manage / Disk Management

In that list see if the device is listed (you'll know by the name or storage size of the device) If it's there right click and 'change drive letter' to an unused drive letter.

Hopefully this will fix your problem.
