Yesterday my dryer kept turning itself off. it would only run for a few minutes at a time. now it won't turn off at all and we've checked all vents to make sure they aren't clogged. it's 13 years old...should I even have a repairman out to look at it?

13 years old is quiet old and is sounds like you want a new one anyways. So a new one would be a better solution probably.

Bosch Axxis WTE86300US turns itself off after ten minutes, won't turn back on for a few minutes after that

I would bet you have a bad sensor. There are a couple of sensors that monitor heat. When it gets too hot they shut it down as a safety precaution. Once it is cool enough it will start up again.

My dryer takes forever to dry anything and often times will not turn on when i press start after it's been ran for a 70 minute cycle but will turn itself on after sitting for awhile my dryer is

This caused by one of two possible things. Either you have poor air flow, or a clogged vent preventing air from flowing freely and therefor making the dryer short cycle, which in turn will take you two or three times to dry yor clothes, or the heating element has gone bad, burnt in half and is making contact with the case to provide it just enough power to barely heat. The second thing is a very rare occurance. I would turn the dryer on, find out where the air vents out to, and with the dryer running, go to where it vents and check to see if there is a strong flow of air. 9 times out of 10 that is going to be your problem. Another way to check air flow is to just pull the vent off the back and let the dryer run and see if your clothes dry faster. If you do it that way and they still take a long time to dry, then you'll probably need to replace the heating element

Gas lights up for about 5 minutes and then burns out. Try to turn on dryer again, but flame won't light. I let dryer sit for aout 30 minutes and turn on again - flame starts up, but will only last...

If the flame is shutting of before it reaches the operating temperatures the likely failure is a restricted venting system. There is a high limit thermostat that will cause the flame to shut off if there is a lack of airflow due to a restriction in the vent system. Remove the lint filter screen and clean in with soap and water. The filter may appear clean but it could have a clear film of fabric softener residue covering it causing a restriction in the air flow too. After cleaning the filter reinstall it before running the next test.

For testing purposes only, disconnect the dryer vent hose from the back of the dryer and put a normal load of clothes in the dryer and start the dryer. If the clothes dry in the normal amount of time that would confirm a restriction in the vent hose or the venting system. NOTE: Do not leave the vent hose disconnected after running the test. Reconnect the vent hose.

You will likely find the clothes drying in the normal amount of time indicating a restriction in the venting.

It starts out fine but shuts itself off after only a few minutes.

It appears that you don't have air movement through the machine. Check the vent hose and outside fixture for lint build-up. Vacuum the machine's inside pipe and underneath the lint filter. Wash the lint filter in hot water and detergent to remove fabric softener deposits (which will block air flow). Check for airflow outside when the dryer runs. Hope this helps!

Dryer gets hot for the first few minutes only

first check your venting. if you have backed up lint then it will not heat as well. if it's not your venting i would check to see if your heating element is broken and shorted to the casing..some times it will still heat if the coils weld themselves to the casing...if the heating element looks good then i would turn to your electrical.

Dryer stuck

If it is the timer thats not shutting itself off ,than check the following below
First off turn dryer ON and make sure there are no kinks in vent tube thats attached on back of dryer.2nd,find the outside vent opening and feel for strong air flow.If you have any doubt that its not strong enough then, pull dryer away from wall....pull the vent hose off the dryer ,.....now dry 1 load on a 50-60 minute Timed Dry Cycle. If all goes well, you now know your venting has to be cleaned out.(The only 1out of 1,000 other thing to check is your lint screen ,make sure you can see light through it.) 3rd and final , is if after running for 60 minutes with vent un hooked and still it is not drying competly, than you have to replace the Split coils on the burner,I really can doubt that you have a thermostat out.If you need to know the stats of the Split Coil to Thermostat ratio my experience is 250 Split Coils replaced to just 1 thermostat.
