Question about Panasonic TH-42PX60U Television

4 Answers

I have Panasonic TH-42PX60U. It works OK with the cable box. The DVD worked OK in the past too. Yesterday I tried to switch to DVD mode but it did not work. I turned the TV on with its remote without turning on the cable box - pressed the TV button (flashed 4 times), then the POWER button (the TV turned on - the red LCD went on and the screen flashed for a second then become dark grey and remained like that) and finally I pressed the TV/VIDEO button to get the INPUT SELECT table, but it did not show up - nothing changed. Also, the ASPECT button on the TV remote used to work and change screen size, but not any more. And the SET:BYPASS of the cable box can not be set to ?BYPASS WHEN THE SETTOP IS OFF? but from the cable company they told me this was because of the problem and not the problem itself. Besides, the TV used to click 3 times when I turned it on and 1 time when I tuned it off, but some time ago it stopped clicking. My cable box is connected to ?COMPONENT 1? input and my DVD player - to ?HDMI 1? input. I replaced the remote batteries but nothing changed. I connected the DVD with a Component cable to the TV ?COMPONENT 1? and it worked fine - so the DVD is OK. Looks like besides the POWER button there is no connection between the TV remote and the TV. Could you please help me with that? Can I reset the remote functions somehow?

I reset the TV as you suggested but it didn't work. And the remote itself can not be reset.

I will buy a new remote, hopefully that will solve the problem, thank you very much.

I wil consider this option later - I will try with a new remote first, thank you very much.

The remote has died and it can't be fixed - it's a very common problem, they wear out easily. Buy a new one.

No, remotes cannot be reseted. They either work or they don't  - no middle ground.

Your high-voltage transformer aka power supply is likely going out. It is very common in newer electronics because of part being made cheaper and faster. You could probably get a replacement from partstore.com or shopjimmy.com or others.
If the tv works other than the remote, then your IR sensor (infa red) is bad due to faulty capacitor(s). You can use an ohmmeter to test the caps to see which one is out of range from the rest of them. You may be able to get the entire sensor but I am not 100% positive on this.

You can try unpluggin the tv for a few hours, then in the process of being unplugged, press and hold the power button for a slow long 5 full seconds. Wait half hour more before plugging it back in and turning it on. This should reset it. You can check the remote to see if it has a reset button itself. It would be a small pin-sized hole. If this is universal, then you may want to try and reprogram it.
I have heard of the remotes going back and also the IR sensors going bad but not as common.

Using a box of some kind? try unplugging that and wait then plug back to see if the issue is the box. It will try to reboot.

PANASONIC TH-42PX60U 42 - half of screen not working

I had the same issue. I am going to replace my scan buffer boards. The upper half of mine works but the lower half is black so I would replace the lower Scan buffer board but in case of future issues I have ordered both upper and lower for $44.
The scan buffer boards are fairly simple to locate. Open up back of tv there are two biffer boards identical. The item or product code on them contain letters either SU or SD (Scan up and Scan down)Look up tv parts and item code you will find a place to order or just get the 1 800 number from tv manufacturer.

TH-42PX60U All output ports works but HDMI ports

Problem is with your ISP/Cable Company accepting the installation as one with HD clients, which while
not necessarily costing you more, must be specified to the cable box by your installer.

Make the call.

TH-42PX60U red light blinks 10 times wont come on

On a Panasonic TV the 10-blink error code can sometimes be caused by low voltage running through an HDMI cable, particularly from a Media PC or some video game consoles. Try disconnecting any HDMI cables and unplugging the Television for 30 seconds, then power it on without the cables attached.

If this works, connect the cables to the front panel (usually HDMI-3) which uses a different controller board.

Lost power cord

Should be OK as long as it's capable of carrying the wattage the system is pulling. The TH-42PX60U is rated at 320 watts max - you should be OK as most computer cables are rated well above that. However if you're worried, us the power cord from a laser printer or copy machine - it will definately carry the load.

No picture on hdmi2

First of all connect the Direct TV box to HDMI 2 and see if it works there. If it does then the next step is to connect the DVD player to HDMI and see if it wors there. If not then connect the DVD player to the TV using the component inputs and if the DVD player works on those. If it does then maybe the HDMI interface in the DVD player no longer works as it needs to communicate with the TV.
