Hi, this one is for Acer, I would understand if xp or vista showed 3 gig, but then they would show 3.5gig.
Are you sure they are both 2 gig sticks? Give them a check, I had a similar problem a couple of years ago with 2 x 1 gig sticks, when I noticed after buying them in the shop, i was in the car and ntoiced that one was a 500meg stick, so give them a check.
If they are OK then give acer a call, unless someone else that views your question can help you.

Regards - Anthony

Laptop shows only 4gb ram & 300 gb hdd

This is the limitation of a 32 bit (x86) Operating System. A 32 bit OS can detect upto 3GB RAM only.

You may either try installing the x64 Bit of XP Operating System or Vista Service Pack 1 or 2 for 32 bit Vista Operation System to resolve the issue.

After installing the SP 1 or 2 of the Vista OS in the Computer, the OS will detect 4GB RAM.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can Gigabyte GA-8I945PLGE-RH supports 4gb ram?

Sorry, but at the moment you can't do that. This is because the BIOS is programmed to manage only 2GB memory. I searched for BIOS upgrade to resolve the memory issue but with no luck. At the moment your motherboard supports only 2 GB RAM.

In most cases will only see the RAM that is available AFTER the windows allocation size. If windows allocate 1 GB to itself for its processes etc. You will only see 3 GB available for viewing.

Problem with upgrading my acer extensa 5620z memory to 4GB

Hi there.
I recommend you get another stick of SODIMM to replace what seems to be the faulty stick.
If you are using XP or Vista X86 (32bit) then the system will only recognize 2.8 - 3GB of memory, only 64bit operating systems recognize the full 4GB.

Good luck ad thanks for using FixYa!!

Incorrect RAM reported on BIOS

4GB RAM requires a 64 bit compatible processor AND Operating System to be able to access
addresses in memory that exceed the 32 bit assress space.

I'm not familiar with the motherboard that you are using but simply expanding RAM isn't enough if your
system isn't 64 bit compliant. Assuming it is, then ensure that you are using a 64 bit version of Windows 7 opposed to a 32 bit release candidate.

Hi i have acer aspire 4530 laptop..it has 1gb of ram but as its too low i wanna upgrade the ram..so i wanna ask tht how much maximum ram will my laptop support....i wanna upgrade it to 4gb ram.will it...

According to Acer your system can support a max of 4 gb RAM. It has 2 slots so you would need 2, 2 GB RAM modules. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Can't upgrade an Acer Aspire 3000 notebook to 2 gb

Thanks for choosing fixya.com

Your not alone in this type of problem. When it comes to computer (laptop especially) they usually have a "Max allowed ram" most times its listed in the back of the manual in small print. Its a way to keep people buying new computers (if your into the conspiracy theories)
Chances are even a bios upgrade would not fix your problem. Mostly BIOS upgrades add support for new boot options, plug and play support, and fixes to bugs in older versions.

You can check aspires/acers website for updates www.acer.com
If they have an update it will comes with documentation as to what the update does.

Hope this helps you out.
