Question about Maytag MDG9206 Dryer

1 Answer

The igniter fires the gas, it burns for a minute or less, then stops and won't restart unless the dryer is stopped and restarted? Is this a coil problem?

Sounds like a clogged vent. If you let it run for a few minutes after it shuts off, it will come back on. Your overtemp. thermostat doesn't allow it to work, because the hot air is not being sucked in. But to answer your question, not the coils for sure in my opinion. When coils fail, it won't turn on after 10 min of running or more. Not right away.

I have a MDG6700 with the same issue..all my research on this problem points to the 2 coils on the gas valve. Tomorrow i am going to change them (kit is about 30 bucks to get local)..coils test good but other postings about this dryer say one coil gets hot and is weak and close the gas valve thus stopping the heating process..

Gas Dryer. Heat for only one burn cycle.

Try vacuuming out the intake and exhaust of the burner to remove any lint or other debris. If no help, the main burner may need to be replaced.

Kenmore dryer heats at first then quits

You may have a bad thermocouple. The thermocouple is what "tells" the control unit that the flame is present. If it doesn't tell the control, the control turns the gas off to prevent an explosion.

hi bob,
try replacing the gas valve coils,
they are the hold and asist,
one allows voltage to the ignitor, one
allows voltage from ignitor to open the gas valve/ well actually resistance, but im sure you understand
they are pretty commanly the problem with your diagnosis

Gas neptune dryer fires up for 45 sec. to 1 min, then goes out

Could be a couple different things,Possibly a thermostat or high limit that is kicking out too soon, also has a flame sensor next to the burner that can come and go.if you have a toggle switch or pushbutton switch you can unplug the unit take the two wires off the flame sensor (black box about the size of a cigarette pack on the left of the burner)plug them into the switch start the dryer Turn the switch on till the igniter glows bright, turn the switch off and the burner will light if it stays lit at least till it gets to temp replace the flame sensor.(It won't cycle with out flipping the switch each time)

Maytag Neptune MDG 5500 AWQ heats sporatically

your dryer has a safety feature that it will not run or heat when the door is opened. It is so no gas fumes are exhauseted into your home. Once the safety is engaged, It will not allow the dryer to restart for a short while. It should clear itself after only a few minutes. Hope this helps, good luck.
