Black Ink won't print on my Cannon ip90 Printer

I have been having problems with the black ink not printing on the printer mentioned in subject line. I have tried every avenue available from troubleshooting, to maintenance to even replacing the brand new cartridge just in case the other was a dry one even though brand new.

Please tell me what i need to do and know that I will be so grateful as this has been a four hour ordeal. In addition my HP 7200 series does not print for other reasons, it says usb not recognized or one excuse after the other. I have 30 GB of free space so dont think this is a problem.
Thanks a million for any assistance or direction you may be able to give.

I was not able to select the correct printer for my problem resolution need when I went to your site. I have a Cannon iP90 not the PIXMAMP460

Can you help with this printer? Problem is that the Black Ink will not print and this happened only when ink was out and inserting brand new cartridge. I then put in another new one because i thought maybe the first one was dry, it wasn't.

    Thanks

    Viv

I had this problem with my iP90. I found a solution! I removed the print head (see Canon's support website above for removal instructions) and soaked it in rubbing alcohol for 10 minutes, dumped it out, poured fresh, and let it soak for another 10 minutes. Removed it from the alcohol and shook it off then dried the head with a hair dryer with a COOL setting. Returned it to the printer, returned the cartridges, and performed a deep clean in the Maintenance settings. Voila... it prints again!

You may need to install a new print head. it is very easy to do yourself (basically the same steps you used to install it when you bought the printer- you can also find step-by-step instructions with pictures on cannons support website http://www.usa.canon.com/opd/controller?act=OPDSupportDropDownAct) What has probably happened is that dried ink has accumulated on the print head and clogged it. the "clean print head" option on the printer is a maintenance function that should be performed regulary to prevent a clog; it is not effective at clearing an already clogged print head.

After doing all the soaking in alcohol and several deep cleanings my printer still did not print black ink, so I reinstalled the software and changed the printer settings to FAST and the black ink is printing now...

Horizontal black line at top of copy on sharp mx3100.Any idea why?

I have the manual, but it does not mention about lines in the troubleshooting. It does mention how to adjust the print quality which could reduce that black line. Please send an email to LBrown18062@hotmail.com and put "sharp mx2600_3100n" as the subject and I will send it to you.

When printing text in black ink, some lines of the text are missing. I've tried doing a deep cleaning 4 times and replaced the black ink cartridge. Have also tried unplugging unit, but that didnt help...

You didn't mention what printer was doing this. HP, Lexmark, Epson? It sounds like your print head is clogged with dried ink. If you can remove print head you can sit it on a damp cloth with the nozzle of the print head in contact with the damp cloth and hope that the cloth will draw out the dried ink.

I replaced an ink cartridge because the printer stopped working and showed a message that the old cartridge is empty. However after putting the new one in but the printer still refuses to work and shows...

maybe the cartridge is wrong, release it and clean the electrical contacts, put them again one by one, if notting happen, try this
Solution As the printer operates, it moves ink from the ink cartridges into a printhead reservoir. The printer does not deliver a message when an ink cartridge goes empty, because it still has ink in the reservoir. The printer continues printing until the ink level in the reservoir falls to a first trigger point - then a message appears advising the printer owner to Replace Cartridges Soon . At this point, other cartridges that are empty but have not reached the trigger point are also mentioned in the message, to save trips to the retailer. After the first trigger point, the printer can continue printing until ink levels in the reservoir reach a second trigger point. At the second trigger point there is only enough ink left to perform vital servicing tasks, and a new message appears, saying Ink Cartridges Empty . The options offered depend on the usable inks remaining. If no options are offered, the cartridges indicated must be replaced before printing can continue. The Ink Cartridges Empty options are described in the table below: Ink colors out Option Print mode possible All Cancel None Black

AND

Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow (any or all) Black only Continue with other colors Cyan/Magenta/Yellow mode (composite black)

Text and photo quality will differ from those printed when all colors are available Light Cyan or Light Magenta (either or both) Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow (any or all)

(Black still available) Print with black ink only Grayscale

Blank Ink not pumping to print head

Turn off the device after removing the printhead After removing the printhead, turn off the device, wait about 20 seconds, and turn it on again without the printhead installed. After it has restarted, reinsert the printhead.

it will go through this long routine of perhaps 20 min or so. after its compleate it should print great.

Black ink cartridge - won't print

It is not unusual to receive a bad cartridge. The ink or the fiber in those cartridges are subject to blocking ( drying) while not in use.
That would be the most likely problem.

Wont print in black.

hi,

check the ink level of the color cartridges also. because to print in black it will use some color also.

if everything is ok try this

> unplug the usb cable from the printer
> click on "start-->control panel--> printers and faxes".
> select all the printer icons which is related to your priter and delete it.
> once that is done, plug the usb cable back to the printer.
> wait for few minutes while it installs the driver automatically.
> if done, try printing in black from varius applications like notepad, wordpad, ms word etc.
> if o go, you may have to service the unit as you have already tried with 3 different black cartridges.

thanks and regards
